I've heard about my Uncle Fred . . . But I never knew what he looked like.
Until that day.
No, I didn't know at that moment.
I found out later.
But it was still that day . . .
~*~
I noticed a man that looked similar to my father and a beautiful lady with light brown hair and caramel eyes.
"Daddy, daddy,"
"Yes, sweetheart?" My father stopped and picked me up.
"How are you here when you're there?" I pointed in the distance. My father looked out and scrunched his eyebrows.
"What do you mean, Mika?"
"You're right there!"
"Mika, you're so silly," He kissed my cheek and as we were just about to walk out of the barrier, the man identical to my father looked over and started to race towards us...
~*~
I'll never forget that look.
It looked like as if my father was scared out of his mind. But he started to run towards us.
As if my father had his back turned to a mirror, but his reflection wanted out.
Then, the bricks were his replacement in my vision.
I had a brief intake on that lady as well. She was beautiful. Almost as beautiful as my mother. She was a little bit shorter than my mother, but her light ashy brown hair rested in graceful waves down to her mid-back. Those eyes were warm and soft, and her skin was fair. But when her eyes also locked with mine, they went big and alarmed, just like my father's double's did. But nothing went off in my head when I took a look at her. It was a ghost town in my brain when it came to recognizing who she was.
"Daddy, wait!" I squirmed in his arms, trying to go back.
"Mika, if you be a good girl I promise mummy will make some delicious cookies." My father said.
"Trust me, kid," Uncle Trent, "You don't want to miss that. Reckon your mummy bought those expensive chocolate chips this time."
"May be so," my mother cooed over her shoulder, "However, if you fuss more than her, I'll just have to give you some raisins instead!"
"Piss off . . ." Uncle Trent scoffed.
I couldn't stop staring at that barrier. It got smaller and smaller with each step my father took away from it. But the curiosity within me only got bigger and bigger.
"But . . . But daddy!" I started to kick and whine.
"Mika! What's gotten into you?" My mother stopped in her tracks and tried to look me in the eye. But I continued to look over her shoulder and stare at the barrier that seemed like it was miles away.
"I want to go there!" I fussed.
"Go where? School? I know you'll miss your brothers, but they'll be back for Christmas! Don't you worry, my new moon. Come here," my mother gently took me from my father's arms, "No sad moon. Okay? Only happy and bright shining moon. Because if we don't have a shining moon, all is dark. Understand?" She kissed my cheek and we kept walking.
"But, daddy! A-and—"
"Daddy's right here, sweetheart." My father smiled down at me after planting a kiss on the top of my head.
