Part 1: Coming Out

The most terrifying thing I've ever done? This. Definitely this. There I was, standing in front of my mom, dad, and my big sister. I had no idea what they're thinking. I just sat them all down to tell them I have an announcement, and I didn't know how they'll take it. Probably poorly. Please don't let them take it poorly I thought. "Any time now Nathan," my father spoke up. I always hated that name. Nathan. So horribly masculine. "Give him a minute Brad," as always, mom came to my aid.

"Ugh! Just tell us you're a girl and be done with it!" my sister, kind as always.

"Laura! You take that back this instant! That's your little brother!"

Before Laura could say whatever horrible thing she wanted to say, I decided to interject; "Actually mom, I'm her little sister." I braced for impact. But nothing came. Just shock. All around shock. My dad raised from his chair, looked me in the eyes, and walked off to the kitchen. I released the air I didn't even realize I had been holding in. I looked over to my mom. Crying, she was crying. When she noticed my gaze, her tears were accompanied by loud sobbing. That's when I saw it. Sitting there phone out, Laura recorded every last word.

"This is going all over the internet!" Laura cackled with a menace.

"No! Mom!" I cried for help. She just looked up at me through teary eyes, then they went back down into her hands. "You want everyone at school to your little brother isn't the Cishet poster boy everyone thinks he is?" I yelled.

"Better coming from me than you," my sister's evil eyes sparkled with hatred.
