Victor's POV

Bede.

The only guy that I've hated in forever.
He has an ego as big as a Wailord, and he has the guts to insult me and my best friend and rival, Hop. Hop has been my best friend ever since I could remember, especially because we're neighbors.

Hop is a really sweet, funny, and determined guy. He loves Pokémon battles, he loves exploring, and he loves his older brother, Leon, who is also the Champion of Galar.

My mind ended up going back to Bede, imagining what he must've said or done to Hop. I heard about what happened, but I haven't seen Hop since. I walked down Route 6 angrily with my hands clenched into fists. I didn't know who I wanted to see more; Bede, so I could punch him in the face, or Hop, so I could give him a reassuring hug.

After loads of walking, I finally made it to Stow-On-Side, the city that holds the Fighting type gym. Out of all the sights I had to take in, I ignored them all and instantly ran to Hop.

"Oh, hey, Victor." Hop sullenly said, looking as gloomy as I've ever seen him. Actually, I've never seen Hop upset at all. I guess he's just that happy of a guy. I could definitely tell he wasn't happy now, though.

"Hop! Are you okay? Bede told me what happened, and tried to rub it in my face..." I gripped his shoulders tightly, a stressed look etched into my face. Hop tried to avoid my eyes, as if his life depended on it.

"I-I'm...fine." Hop's gaze shifted nervously every second, barely able to keep it fixated.

"Hop...you're not fine. Tell me...what did Bede do to you, mate?" I asked, my grip on his shoulders loosening, but not slipping. Hop's hair waved subtly in the wind, and he finally decided to give in to whatever he was thinking and tentatively locked his eyes with mine. The look in his eyes...it was nothing but pure sorrow and desperation. His pupils were dilating, giving him a 'kicked Yamper' look. I couldn't get enough of his beautiful, deep, yellow eyes. There was a part of me telling me that this feeling was wrong, probably because we're both guys, but the rest of me wanted to stay like this forever. Huh, this feeling is weird.

"Bede, he...after he beat me in a Pokémon battle, he told me that I was ruining the Champion's name, that I was a burden on his title...he said I would never become Champion...and that I was a pushover...and..." Hop told me, his once cheery eyes starting to tear up ever so slightly.

"And what?" I asked, trying not to lose my cool and want to tear Bede apart.

"...He...He made his Gothorita slap me before he left...I still have the mark..." Hop turned his head to show me the red mark on his right cheek. Now I was steaming, more than a teapot forgotten on the stove. I was so ready to punch Bede with all my might.

I'm gonna end this whole man's career before it even starts.

"Oh, Hop..." I took a good, long look at his bruise, feeling nothing but rage towards Bede deep inside, but somehow staying calm and sensible on the outside. I ran my thumb gently over the bruise, hoping that Hop wouldn't wince. However, he did wince, despite my every prayer to Arceus. A rather noticeable blush crept its way onto Hop's cheeks, signifying for me to take my hand back from his face, which I did. Hop clenched his eyes shut and had a hurt look. A shiny, sparkling tear rolled down Hop's cheek, his breathing starting to hitch.

"I...I-I'm going to the Glimwood Tangle!" Hop stuttered and ran off, stumbling at first.

"Hop, wait!" I called desperately, hoping that Hop would come back. After a few seconds, I growled and clenched my fists.

Bede, you're really in for it now, you airy-fairy tosser.

"Oi, Victor!" Professor Magnolia's assistant and granddaughter Sonia came running up to me. She then started to ramble on about the history of Galar, and the mural here in Stow-On-Side. Then, out of nowhere, a loud cracking noise came from the direction of the mural.
