Picking Up Jojo

I was with Jon as we wait for Joe to get back from the store when my phone rings.

"Hello?" I ask.

"Hey, Colbs. Can you do me a favor?" Joe asks.

"What's up, man?" I ask.

"Can you pick up Joelle from school? You guys are on her emergency card. I'm stuck in traffic. Like five cars crashed on the freeway and I won't make it." He says.

"Yeah, sure, man." I say.

"Thanks, man." He says.

"No problem." I say and hang up.

"Be back. Gotta go pick up jojo." I say, getting my keys.

"Where's Joe?" He asks.

"Stuck in traffic. Five cars crashed on the freeway he's on." I say, leaving.

~At the school~

I walk into the office and go to the desk.

"I'm here to pick up Joelle Anoa'i." I say.

"What's your relationship to the child?" She asks.

"I'm her uncle." I say.

She gives me a binder and I sign jojo out.

"She's in room 307." The lady says and I thank her and leave.

I get there and walk in to see jojo in her class. She sees me and smiles. I smile back and knock on the door. The teacher looks over at me and see a beautiful woman. She looked scarily like Joe and Sika.

"Yes?" The woman asks as the bell rings.

"Time for recess, kids. Be safe and remember..." The woman says as all the kids stand.

"Stay safe and never disrespect one another." The kids all say.

The woman smiles.

"Have at it!" She says and the kids cheer and hug her then leave.

Jojo comes over to me.

"I'm picking up jojo." I say to the teacher.

"Oh ok. Here's her homework." She says, handing me a couple pages.

"I'm Colby, Joelle's uncle." I say.

"Hello, Colby. I'm Ms. Anoa'i, Joelle's teacher." She says.

"She has the same last name as me and daddy!" Jojo says.

"I can see that." I say, picking jojo up.

"You look familiar. And you treat Joelle and your class really well." I say.

"I just had my baby two weeks ago. My father gave me to my cousins and my uncle to raise me when I was born. I have a brother that I don't know." She says.

"Wow. Sorry to hear that. Congratulations on your baby." I say.

"Thank you and no worries. I'm getting by." She says.

I slip her my number.

"Call me later." I say.

She smiles and take it.

"I will." She says.

I take jojo to the car and start driving off.

"Uncle Colby... Do you have a crush on my teacher?" Joelle asks.

I blush.

"How about we go tell daddy how much homework you have?" I say and she giggles.
