November 6th, 1983

Hawkins, Indiana

Night - Hawkins National Laboratory/U.S. Department of Energy - Outside

In the dead of the night with the stars shining bright in the sky above, the first place to seen was a government facility with the sign of the lame for the facility nearby.

Inside - Hallway

Some of the lights were flickering. There was a long camera pan down the hall to a door. After a few moments, a man in a lab coat burst through the door, running for his life, terrified. Behind him, an alarm was sounding. The man eventually reached an elevator, frantically pushing the button, looking back down the hallway, continuously pressing the call button for the elevator until the doors dinged opened, running inside, pushing the button inside of the elevator to close the doors, standing still for a moment to catch his breath, breathing heavily. He thought all was well until he heard a low growling above him, looking up as the growling became louder. As the elevator doors closed, the man screamed as he was pulled upwards.

Wheeler House - Outside

The Wheeler house was shown from the outside first, showing a sprinkler going off.

Inside - Basement

Mike Wheeler, Will Byers, Lucas Sinclair and Dustin Henderson, otherwise known as the party, were playing Dungeons and Dragons.

Mike was speaking in a dramatic tone. "Something is coming. Something hungry for blood. A shadow grows on the wall behind you, swallowing you in darkness. It is almost here."

"What is it?" Will asked.

"What if it's the Demogorgon?" Dustin asked. "Oh, Jesus, we're so screwed if it's the Demogorgon."

"It's not the Demogorgon," Lucas assured.

Mike slammed a figurine onto the table. "An army of troglodytes charge into the chamber!"

"Troglodytes?" Dustin repeated.

"Told ya," Lucas told them.

They all laughed.

Mike suddenly looked nervous, looking around. "Wait a minute. Did you hear that? That... that sound? Boom... boom... boom!" He slammed his hands on the table, startling the other boys. "That didn't come from the troglodytes, no that... that came from something else." He slammed another figurine onto the table. "The Demogorgon!"

The other boys exclaimed in surprise and defeat.

"We're in deep shit," Dustin said.

"Will, your action," Mike commanded.

Will was freaking out over the game and over what to do. "I don't know!"

"Fireball him," Lucas demanded.
