"Nova! Eve! Dinner!" Our mother called. Eve is my little sister. A dark unicorn like me, but she had a dark chocolate brown mane and tail, whereas mine was jet black. Her horn was a pearl white, with gold lines along the spiral. Eve had the brightest gold eyes. The spitting image of our mother. Our mother looked exactly the same, just bigger. But not as big as our father. Our father was 7 feet tall from the top of his head to the ground, not including the length of his horn, which was 9 inches long. He had a white mane and tail, sky blue eyes and his horn was silver with hints of blue.

I didn't really look like father or mother. I was jet black from head to hoof including hair and horn. Even my eyes were a very dark gray.
"Coming!" Me and Eve both called out. The sun was setting as we finished playing and headed for the cave where we spent most of our nights. We didn't mind it as it never really got too cold in Albania. Sure it got a little chilly from the wind or what have you but it never snowed here. As far as we knew there wasn't a human for miles so we were safe from hunters.

We lived in the lands of Albania within the country of Korthal. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like you are stuck forever in spring time.  The trees blossom 3 times a year here. It's a beautiful place. Birds singing, animals play and magical creatures dancing in the moonlight. At night the stars shine like a thousand suns. The animals and creatures are happy here and it shows.

There were more of us at a time not long ago, but the hunters split us up and we haven't found anyone from our herd yet. Mother and father says we will some day but I have little faith. I dare not say that to Eve though as her two friends are with their parents, gods knows where.

"Mother? Do you think we will ever find Madia or Poppy again?" Eve asked hopeful, knowing the answer would be the same as when she asked yesterday.
"Some day soon my dear. I promise we will see them both. Now eat your dinner" Eve smiled and started eating. Tonight like every other night we had hay and berries again. Its all we can find without going too close to the human village near by.

After dinner I heard mother singing to Eve to help her sleep. She's been having nightmares lately but mothers singing seems to help. Father was still out looking for food and any threats. As mother and Eve fell asleep father trotted in quietly.
"Nova. You're up late." He grunted trying to whisper. "Cant sleep, huh?"
"No, unfortunately not. I...I want to go out looking for the rest of the dark unicorns. I know we aren't alone but we aren't gonna find them unless we look. Sitting here hiding is getting us no where." Father stared at me like I just said something extremely strange and silly.

"No, Nova. Its too dangerous. We already lost ours friends. do you want to lose your sister too?" He grunted eating a little bit of hay.
"But father we could search more then just a small distance. I heard one of the villagers say they saw all black horses by Druidal. At lest its something and its not that far! 2 days trot at most!" In retrospect probably shouldn't have told him about the villagers cause he got mad...fast.
"YOU DID WHAT!?" he grunted and closed his eyes in frustration. "Please tell me you did not go down to the village." He said dropping his head with a sigh.
"Well yes but it was to see if anyone has heard or seen our herd. I hide behind fences and bushes like you showed me. No one saw me father" I could see the anger build again.

"That is not why ni showed you that Nova! Why would you risk outing your own family for the sake of a herd that DID NOT LOVE YOU! you could have gotten killed Nova! Who's to say you didn't lead hunters here!" Father stomped his hoof as he said this. I felt the burning of tears in my eyes. How could he say this? I may have been a bit bullied as I was the the only unicorn that was jet black all the way through, but doesn't mean they didn't love me....right?
"how could you say that? they are our family!" crying I ran out of the cave. I ran until I got to the top of the hill. I could still see the cave but my father wouldn't be able to hear or see me behind the tree. I don't understand. I thought my father loved our herd. Now hes acting like they never existed. Existed. what if they were all taken already? or worse killed? I felt tears burning my eyes again.
