Falling, that's how it started. The dark floating void, like I was under water. The darkness surrounded me, leaving me and me alone. Something wasn't right, until a bright light bore down on me. I moved toward it. The light continued to bath me in its warm embrace. Until I reached it...
My eyes shot open, I sat up quickly, causing the world to spin. The dizziness was new, I held my head and groaned. Once everything calmed down I looked around.
"Where am I?" I asked aloud to no one. I looked down at my body, the body of a slender teenager, dressed in sweatpants, a t-shirt and a hoodie. "Who am I?" I tried to move to get off the bed and heard a clunk as I hit the ground. I now got a good look around, I was on a bed in what appeared to be a workshop. The tool's hung loosely from their spots, and an open tool box sat next to me.
"You're awake?" I heard a male voice say. I looked over towards the door, now seeing a man in a suit and purple tie, having his face obscured by the shadows of the doorway he leaned in. "I didn't think you would wake up." His voice was soft and calming, but at the same time he sounded almost surprised.
"Didn't think... I would wake up?" I thought for a moment, the gears turning in my head. What to ask first, I had some many questions but at a loss for words. "Who are you sir?" I looked back at him. He looked very skinny, almost malnourished. That's what I could see from where I was anyway.
"Dave," he said after some silence. "My name is Dave." He looked near expressionless with the exception of a shiny blank smile that passed through the darkness as he stared at me.
"What's my Name?" I asked.
"Your Name? Your name is Adam." He stepped closer and I got a better look at his face. His eyes were sunken and his face was skeletal, he kept that blank and emotionless smile. He had bags under his eyes. He looked like he hadn't slept in weeks. "I am your father."
"Father?" I questioned attempting to stand, my legs giving off a soft whirring as I did. As I stood I staggered catching myself on the desk. I fully stood and moved toward him and a rhythmic tune started to play from my footsteps. It continued until I was directly in front of him, I was standing a good head taller, he placed his hand on my shoulder and looked me deep in the eyes. His eyes almost gave me an impression as if he had no soul.
"Come, let me show you something." He turned to the doorway and moved outside, I followed him up a flight of stairs, and it led into a living room. The room looked... tacky. An ugly lamp sat next to a tv, the wall paper was sickly yellow. However I wasn't there for long before my father led me outside, leading me to a purple car. The cool summer night looked beautiful, I took a moment to look up at the beautiful moon, no clouds constricted it's soft and comforting pale glow.
"Adam, come!" Father shouted from the car and walked towards it, getting in the passenger's seat. The cool leather pushed against my neck as I lay back.
*************
"Where are we going Father?" I asked, looking out the window, seeing the trees speed past, the darkness of the woods obscuring the creatures within.
"Work.'' he responded, his voice cold and unfeeling. We finally pulled into the parking lot of a small building. We got out of the car and looked up at the sign, it read "Fredbear's Family Diner." Father walked up and unlocked the door, and benckonded me to come, the darkness of the building was untouched by the pale moon light. The darkness seemed to flow from the building outside, like a snake sneaking up on its prey. However I followed, my mind absent of fear. He walked in and he turned on the lights causing the darkness to retreat to the cracks and crevices in the wall and floor. The building appeared to come to life, colors were everywhere. Posters appeared to cover the walls. All contained a golden colored bear and matching bunny. I walked into the building, the door closing behind me with a thud.
"Follow me." My father waved for me to follow, I did as he asked and he led me to a room just before the stage. "Employees only," the door read. The two larger than humanoid figures loomed in the darkness, giving the room a sense of dread. Father flicked on the light and a single bulb illuminated the figures. The two appeared to be a bear and bunny, not as cute as the posters outside. The bear looked old and worn, like a cloth left to rot. Metal pieces seen through his arms and legs, revealed by torn cloth. The bunny was even worse, the left arm from the elbow down was torn off, meanwhile the right arm was covered in a crimson tint. I suddenly smelled the iron twinge of blood. It appeared to be coming from the suits.
"Pay attention Adam." Father suddenly said, drawing my attention away from the smell. As he moved to the bear and bunny, his voice became more stern. "This is Bonnie the Bunny, and this is Fredbear."
"What are they?" I asked.
"They are a suit that doubles as both animatronic and suit, the suit is very dangerous however," He opened the Bonnie suit and I saw spikes on the inside, mirroring each side in perfect harmony. "We already had two Incidents involving the suits." The spikes were rusty, as if they had been drenched. The blood smell returned stronger this time. It was nauseating. I looked up at the Bonnie suit, the dark green eyes meeting mine. It sent a chill down my spine, the eyes appeared hostile, unlike the friendly eyes of Fredbear.
"You mentioned work earlier. Did you want me to work here?" I asked as I looked at the suits.
"Repair, guard and entertain. That is your job. Repair the suits if something goes wrong, guard the place from intruders at night and the employee only doors during the day, and then put on the suits and entertain when you're asked."
"That's kinda a lot for my first job, isn't it?" I asked and he glanced at me with a cold look, making me not want to ask anymore questions.
"It's fine," he said, appearing to read my mind. He turned his attention back toward the suits. "Your first step is to fix Bonnie's arm and clean him." I looked at him confused, he was serious. I looked to the shelf above the animatronics and saw the missing piece of the arm, I reached up to grab it. and quickly attached it to Bonnie. The piece sliding gently into place, like a key in a lock. My father held out a rag, I grabbed it and started to wash the fur of the bunny suit in front of me. I bumped the suit and Bonnie's head slumped forward over me, almost watching me as I worked. The rag was able to wash off most of the red stains, making this suit a bit more yellow.
"Well done Adam. It looks almost as good as new." He placed his hand on the head of the bunny, moving it back. I stood up and looked at them, I had completed my task. Father tossed me the keys. "The place is yours for now, open up at 6 am."
"Yes father." I said looking at the clock near the stage, 12 am. 6 hours had to pass before opening.
"Place them back on the stage." he said, walking through the door. I watched him get in the car as I locked the door. He drove back home, leaving me alone in silence.
"Place them on stage." I repeated while I walked back to the room with fredbear. I scanned the room and saw a small figure in the corner, the light not touching it, leaving it in a shroud of darkness.
"Are you another animatronic?" I asked aloud to the figure, however I got no response. I walked over to it and gently placed my hand on its head, feeling a wet sensation on my hand. I drew my hand back and looked at it in the light, crimson. Blood, I grabbed the body by the legs and dragged it into the light. A little girl, she was wearing a white dress with yellow curly hair. Her face had a frozen look of horror and her dress was stained. Her eyes were glassy, like the animatronics behind me. It was terrifying, my ears began to ring. Until suddenly, everything went black.
*************
I blinked and shook my head. I was laying on the ground. I sat up and held my head, I suddenly had a headache.
"Wait. The girl!" I shouted aloud to myself as I stood up. I looked around and realized I was in the dining room. I ran to the back room to find the animatronics missing and the girl gone. I shivered at the thought of those animatronic somehow moving the body. I walked over to the spot and strained my eyes to see the dark corner. Not even streaks of blood remained. I got up and walked back outside to see the animatronics on stage. The clock glimmered behind them.
"2:32." I read aloud. About 2 and half hours had passed since I saw the girl. Maybe it was just a dream or a nightmare. Either way I tried to take my mind off it. I walked my way back to the dining room, the lights were on and the bright lights and colors of the room seemed to pop out at me. I walked to one of the tables and sat down at it.
"Maybe I just need to relax, I'm just panicking." I leaned back in the chair and relaxed for a moment. The world went calm all of a sudden, my mind felt relaxed and my body felt weightless. I let out a deep breath before my calmness was interrupted by this feeling of being watched. I sat back up and looked around, nothing but the emptiness of the diner. The tables are all neatly done up, all the posters on the walls, and the animatronics on stage.
"He noticed us." I heard a hushed voice say, I stood in shock. I scanned the room once more.
"Who's there?" I called out to the diner. No response, was I hearing things?
"What should we do?" I heard another hushed voice say, this one sounded deeper then the other one. No this was not just in my head, I was hearing whispers. I scanned the room again to see the source of these voices.
"Whoever you are, you need to show yourself." I started backing to the stage, something was different about the room. It seemed like the walls were moving, It seemed like the walls were slithering no matter how far I was from them. Suddenly I felt what was like a hand on my shoulder.
I jolted away from the feeling and turned to look at my intruder. It was Fredbear, the large animatronic was one knee right behind where I just was. His eyes were glowing a brownish color, his face was still stuck in a smile and he was still gripping the microphone. I would have screamed however he spoke before I could.
"I'm not going to hurt you, please stay calm." he stated, it was the deep voice again. Was it fredbear? If so, these animatronics are very advanced. At least I thought it was machinery until Bonnie suddenly came to life, I heard no start up just the machine standing straight up and looking at me.
"Yeah kid, we ain't gonna hurt ya." the spry bunny said. He sounded higher pitched and more energetic than fredbear. He hopped down off the stage and I backed away, as he seemed to stare at me. Wait a minute, weren't Bonnie's eyes green? They were glowing blue now.
"What is going on?" I asked as I felt my back touch the wall. The two animatronics looked at each other as Fredbear took his turn to jump off the stage and landed with a loud thud.
"We are here to warn you." Fredbear said turning to me, he looked worried. I moved slightly away from the wall, slightly intrigued. The bear and bunny appeared to look relieved.
"Warn me about what." I asked.
"We are here to warn you about Afton." Bonnie said, looking spooked at the name.
"Who is Afton?"
"Afton is a monster, you cannot trust him. You must not trust the purple man, he is what happened to us." Fredbear said, he sounded hurried.
"Purple man who the hell is that." It was with that the animatronics slumped and the light faded from their eyes. I sat there confused on what the hell just happened. I moved over to the animatronics and tapped them. No response. I picked them up and placed them back on stage. I would have to ask dad about that in the morning, but now I needed to rest. I decided to go and sit at the front counter while I waited. I leaned back and kicked my feet up on the desk, as my eyelids got heavy. I fell asleep within a few minutes.
*************
I was suddenly shaken awake, as I slowly opened my eyes and groaned before I saw a woman looking back at me, her beautiful green eyes staring into mine.
"Hey! Wake up, newbie." I heard her say. Slowly removed my feet from the desk and stood from the chair and stretched.
"What time is it?" I mumbled, looking over at her. She was shorter than me, she looked about how old I looked as well, that being around 19. She had long red hair and a button up shirt that seemed just a little bit too small, along with having the restaurant's logo on the pocket close to her chest.
"It's about 6:30." She stated. I looked down at her again, rubbing my eyes a bit. I guess I slept through the entire night. There was light shining in through the glass door on my left. The darkness outside chased away by it. I looked back at the women.
"6:30? I thought we opened at 6:00." I started looking at her not averting my gaze, she shifted, I seemed to make her uncomfortable.
"Y-Yeah we are supposed to be here at 6:00 but we open at 7:00." This was news to me. Perhaps dad wanted me to wake up early enough to work. I decided to introduce myself.
"I see, apologies for my rudeness. My name is Adam." I extended my hand to her, she looked at me now less comfortable and more a look of confusion.
"Uhhh... Ruby." she said as she slowly accepted my hand. I then walked past her to walk into the dining room. I heard her footsteps follow me to the dining room as she suddenly stepped in front of me.
"Uhhhh you can go home, your shift is over." I looked at her confused, this was my home. I didn't have a shift, I just had work. Perhaps father didn't tell her.
"I don't have a shift, I just work here. This is my home." This seemed to make her more confused. The puzzled look on her face made me question it myself, however father told me this is my job.
"Wait so you stay here every day and all day?" she asked me and I nodded in response she then just looked at me. Her eyes seemed full of a new emotion, but I couldn't pinpoint what emotion.
"I was told to entertain here as well, you must be the other entertainer am I right?" I asked as she seemed so confused and yet still I could see that emotion.
"Yes I operate the Bonnie suit. You will probably be assigned to the Fredbear suit." she said as she took my hand and brought me to the backroom. The room I was already familiar with. I glanced over at that corner where I found that girl, still remembering her face. It must have been a dream, it can't be anything else. She sat me down in a chair, opened a panel on the wall and checked the breakers before turning back to me.
"Why did you bring me back here?" I asked as she now stared directly at me.
"I'm going to give you a rundown of day work. I assume you haven't been told everything about the work you gotta do here." I shook my head no. "Ok well. Start of the day the suits are put in animatronic mode and are made to entertain kids. During this time me and you will trade places of guarding the employees only door and manning the counter. The rest of the staff will be in soon for other jobs. At 11 me and you will get into the suits and interact with kids."
This was a lot to take in already. She went into further detail that I started to space out around. She has a very eccentric personality, while also talking very much with her hands. I started staring at her half way through her speech lips and saw the reddish lipstick that she wore. Her speech suddenly slowed and she started to noticeably turn red. I looked back into her eyes and saw even more emotions.
"Well t-thats all." she stated as I stood up and now looked her in the eyes.
"So who will take the first shift at the counter?" I asked her and she took a moment before speaking again.
"I-I will man the counter first." she said before she walked past me to the counter and I walked out from the door and stood in front of it. This was gonna be interesting.
