The coup ended, eventually. I didn't get the chance to stay and fight the last battles, the ones that will surely make their way into stories, songs, and textbooks as the tragic final stand of the last true Dogs. Then again, I'm not sure I would have taken it.
I do not consider myself a coward, nor do I think any less of the people who chose to leave with their lives. We need people to preserve the good things. Each and every person who defied those final battles has a job to do, be it remembering a kind deed or teaching a child a song. They will survive, and so will the true spirit of our home.
