Beep! Beep! Beep! Mia's alarm clock rang. "Ug..." She groaned as the morning light shone in her eyes. Mia got up slowly. She threw on a simple white t-shirt, a black leather jacket, and ripped jeans, and went downstairs. Her father was asleep on the couch, beer bottle still in his hands. Mia barely talked to him, and when she did, he was yelling at her or beating her in a drunken rage. She grabbed her lunch from the fridge, threw it in her bag, and went outside. When the bus got there, Mia boarded and sat by her best (and only) friend.

"Hey!" Lizzie called enthusiastically. Mia wondered how Lizzie could be so energetic on a Monday morning.

"Hey," Mia responded groggily.

"How was your weekend?"

"Eh. You?"

"It was fine, nothing new." Lizzie brushed her raven black hair behind her ear. Her cheeks suddenly went bright pink.

"Wha-" Mia started to ask, but then her question was answered when Colin Moore stepped inside.

"I'm not here" Lizzie whispered into her ear, as she sunk down in the seat. Mia bearly withheld a laugh.

"Hi," Colin said as he sat across from them.

"Hi," Mia responded with a mischievous smile. "Don't you want to say hi Lizzie?"

Lizzie turned red, partly from anger, partly from embarrassment.  "Um.. h-hi"

Colin blushed too, not realizing he had. Mia giggled to herself. Just ask her out already, Mia wanted to scream.

The gang arrived at school a couple of minutes later. They separated and went to their lockers. Mia walked silently, lost in her thoughts when she felt a shove against the cold lockers. Mia looked up to see who did it. Tripp Johnson with Sophia Taylor by his side. She glared at them, they never left her alone. Half the school loved them, half hated them.

"You got a problem?" Tripp said in his stereotypical jock voice.

Something inside of Mia wanted to explode, wanted them to feel how they made her feel every single day. 'They should be dead' a voice that wasn't her own told her in her head. She had nicknamed the voice Chy. She didn't usually listen to her, but today she was having a hard time resisting the urge to strangle them.

Mia took a deep breath a regained her calm posture. "No, nothing."

The two walked away, satisfied with reminding everyone of their dominance.

The first half of the day was normal enough. Sophia cheated off of her math worksheet (even though it wasn't even hard), Mia was forced to be in the same group as Tripp in science class, and she had an hour of peace in English, then came lunch...

Mia got out her lunch, a ham and turkey sandwich, granola bar, apple, and a pack of fruit snacks. She sat next to Lizzie and a table they had to themselves.

"So..." Lizzie started awkwardly. "How's your day been going?"

"Normal" Mia responded without much thought. The two girls never really talked to each other during lunch. They didn't need to. It was almost like they had some sort of psychic connection, able to practically read each other's thoughts through their body language alone.

"Hey." came a voice suddenly, breaking the silence, it was Colin. He and Lizzie's cheeks went a deep red suddenly. Mia rolled her eyes. She loved her friends, but whenever these two were together, she often ended up being the third wheel.

"Um... One of my friends, Roy, wanted me to give this to you." Colin said as he handed Mia a small note.
