"(Y/N)!!" Your mother screamed up the stairs, and you groaned as you got out of bed. "(Y/N), get up!"

"I'm coming!" You yelled back, quickly changing out of your pajamas and fixing your hair. She was always like this. Your mother was waiting impatiently by the stairs as you went down them, and she shook her head in disapproval at you.

"(Y/N)," She sneered at you. "This is actually important. Why weren't you awake already?!"

"Because it's way too early to be awake!" You argued back, and your mother started to lecture you. You hated it whenever she did this, and you tuned it out boredly, waiting for her to stop talking with a roll of your eyes.

"... and today you have to go deliver a message to your aunt in Zorrositio-"

You looked up, actually listening to her now. You grinned as she told you what you had to do, and ran upstairs to go pack a bag for the trip.

You almost couldn't believe it. An actual trip, all by yourself!

You couldn't wait!!

You stood by the edge of the forest, wearing your backpack. You had packed everything you needed to. You knew it wouldn't be that long of a trip, but you had to go through the Zorrehtan Forest to get to Zorrositio, and you weren't looking forward to it. There were fae folk, vampires, wolf-shifters, magus, and sometimes even demons in the forest, and none of them were very friendly.

Especially the risen. (a/n: swoons~)

You sighed dreamily just thinking of them. The risen were borderline ethereal creatures, with feathers of silver and spiraling antlers. Their flutes echoed over the trees sometimes, and you liked to run to the Rehto Capital's edge just to hear their discordant music.

You knew the risen were dangerous, but still, you couldn't help but hope you would come across one. Perhaps maybe even... Prince Kiuk himself.

Nobody had ever seen Prince Kiuk's face, you knew. It was said that nobody had ever met Prince Kiuk and lived, but you didn't think he killed. Maybe he was just lonely, and needed someone to love.

With the sun rising on the horizon, you squared your shoulders, threw your head back, and marched into the trees. You weren't afraid, confident that even if you ran into Prince Kiuk, you would be able to convince him that you meant no harm.

You just knew he'd listen to you.

The forest was quiet, which was strange, but you thought nothing of it.

As you walked, the grass crunched softly beneath your boots, and you breathed in the open air of the forest. It was so peaceful. You'd only been in the Zorrehtan Forest once in your life, and ever since then, you had longed to go back, the clear air and the gentle breeze making you feel alive.

You had been walking for an hour, enjoying the sights and smells, when the forest seemed to still around you, and something crashed through the bushes towards you. You screamed, the sound echoing over the forest, and then before you could blink, you were surrounded by three vampires.

They grinned at you, and you trembled, turning your head to look at the vampire behind you. They showed off their fangs, and you stumbled away from them, feeling tears come to your eyes.

What were you going to do??

i know prince sakareth and prince kiuk arent in this chapter, but i promise they'll be in the next one, because i felt like this was getting a little long, so i stopped there! they'll definitely be in the next one!
