"Attention! Give your hearts to Captain Levi!"
Facing attention, proudly giving our hearts, we watched our Captain walk towards us, glancing at the young man who had previously announced attention on his behalf and nodded in his direction. His face, as it usually always did, remained unreadable as he advanced towards us, stopping in front of the middle of our row.
He began to give out orders. I paid full attention to his every word, starring intently at his face. We were ordered to set out at dawn, another exploration mission. I tensed up, remembering the casualties of our last mission. But, Levi had better strategies than the last person to give orders. Be certain, I was paying attention to his commands, but my mind wandered as he continued to speak, my eyes lingering on his form, handsomely silhouetted in the late afternoon light. It was yet still light enough to make out his distinctive features. He always looked impeccable. His voice never one you could tire of hearing. His porcelain skin, flawless. His dark hair always seemed to fall in place perfectly. His piercing cold eyes, eyes that seemed to stare into your very soul...
Almost as if hearing my thoughts, he seemed to make eye contact with me while he spoke. I held the eye contact and felt my face heat up, not knowing how to react. He continued speaking of the mission and eventually broke the eye contact, instead choosing to look in an undetermined place away from our group, and eventually dismissed us.
My face still warm from what had previously unfolded, I followed everyone else towards our eating quarters, but taking a second to glance back at Captain Levi. He hadn't moved from his position yet, but my heart skipped a beat upon seeing that he was staring at me. I quickly faced forward yet again, now thoroughly flustered.
The food was really good tonight. It was a soup with red broth, vegetables and big chunks of meat, and we had baked potatoes and bread along with it. I sat with a small group, 3 girls and 5 boys. We were having a nice conversation, about our families and the funny stories we all had and little jokes and such. I glanced over at one of the higher ups table. They seemed to be having their own different conversations. Hamish was discussing something with Levi, she looked very enthusiastic and he looked... well, his expression was always unreadable so it was hard to tell. Erwin was discussing something with a few other people. The weird guy who sniffed me and smirked when I got here wasn't saying much of anything, just eating his food. I turned my attention to the conversation we were having. One of the girls was discussing how her mom always made the best apple pie. The way she described the taste and smell and sight of it almost made my mouth water. I suddenly felt someone walk past me, since I was sitting at the edge of the table. I glanced behind my shoulder to see who it was, expecting it to be one if the boys going to another table to talk with a comrade. Captain Levi was walking away, having gotten up to put away his dirty dishes.
Now, I did not mean to drop my gaze to his lower back. But... I didn't particularly regret it. He had fine assets, I had to admit.(Heh, ass-ets.) I quickly looked away, mentally scolding myself. Soon he began to walk past the table I was sitting at. I glanced up and, I swear, he was looking at me from the corner of his eye. Time seemed to stand still for a moment, just a single moment. Then he turned his attention to in front of him as he continued to walk away. I looked down at my lap, my face heating up again. One of the girls noticed and asked if I felt okay. I stuttered out a reply, more or less stating that I was fine, I was probably just really warm. No one knew or had noticed any interactions between the Captain and me, and no one needed to know my thoughts. I tried desperately to convince myself everything that had transpired today was mere coincidence. Perhaps he wasn't actually paying attention where he was looking. '...but what if he was inntentionallly looking at me?' My face burned hotter, and I attempted to hide my face by resting my head on the table. Ugh, my thoughts are such a pain. If the Captain was looking at me I was likely doing something wrong, though for the life of me I couldn't figure out what it could possibly be I was doing wrong! All I knew was there was no way he would be showing any form of interest towards me. The most we had ever interacted was a simple exchange of "Good luck, Cadet." and my reply of "Thank you, Captain. I wish you luck as well." I tried my best to stop thinking about this and focus on what the group at the table was conversing about. Hopefully it would keep my mind occupied.
