Little children were running around the place, their parents sat under the shade of trees. Chilly wind was blowing marking the beginning of winter. Like everyday, the street was full of people, people doing their work. Amid the morning hustle, there sat a little girl on the bench, observing her surrounding with keen little eyes.
"Nathan", a woman was calling her son,as they were chasing each other, playing together.
The boy Nathan's eyes sparkled as his mother chased him,he squealed and ran.
She saw another little girl in the corner licking her ice-cream, looking happy as her parents sat beside her. As her father caressed her head with adoration in his eyes.
Seeing the sights, the lonely girl, sitting on the bench wondered how it felt to have parents who loved you no matter what or how you are,who would care for you, protect you and play with you, and just to bring a smile on your face would try to give you the world in the fist of you hands.
The girl who had never felt the touch or caress of her parents, yearned for it. She longed for her parents. But as her parents had abandoned her at the door of an orphanage when she was only six months old she never got to see them. She knew nothing about her past. The little girl didn't even know her real name. As she was watching the boy named Nathan playing and his mother calling his name, she thought what her real name could be? What her parents would have named her if they hadn't abandoned her. At her orphanage, her fellow friends called her Adele, her best friend called her Addy, madam Margaret called her sweetpea, Rita the cook called her honeysuckle but she wondered what was her real name? Did she even had a name?
Her thought wondered as she delve into deep thought of who she was, was she Adele, the seven year old girl living in St. Joseph orphanage across the street.
She was dousing in her thoughts, when something caught her eyes. The little boy Nathan was chasing a ball that was rolling down street. She noticed a fast approaching car towards little Nathan. The little girl panicked, she turned her head to her side to look for his mother but she saw that his mother was busy buying candy. Little Nathan was oblivious to the fast running vehicle approaching him as he happily ran to catch the ball.
The little girl, without thinking sprinted toward little Nathan and got hold of the collar of his shirt and hauled him making them both tumbled down.
Hearing the commotion, little Nathan's mother let out a horrified scream as she ran towards them. People nearby stopped as they witnessed the incident. The mother hugged her child, sobbing and gave sloppy kiss on his cheeks. The woman tilted her head and looked at the little girl with an expression filled with adoration and eyes with gratefulness written in them.
"You are an angel my dear, god bless you, you saved our little sunshine. You are no less than sunshine dear, thank you" the woman gratefully thanked her. Again that little girl thought that today she got two new names, 'Angel' and 'Sunshine' but still she pondered what her real name was.

The new cafe across the street from the park, served the best coffee. I relaxed and sat there sipping its heavenly taste glancing through the glass towards the bench where the little girl once sat contemplating what her real name was as every time she got a new name from a new person.
Today the little girl was known as Natalie Brewman, the editor in chief of 'Light' magazine. The world knew her by that name.Today she understood her name she was searching eagerly cannot be given to her by her parents. She had made it, she had earned it. Yes,she was Adele to the children of the orphanage, Addy to her best friend, sweetpea to madam Margaret, honey suckle to Rita, angel and sunshine to little Nathan's mother and mostly Natalie to the world. She was whom she meant to the life of the people she knew. She was whom she had made herself into. Her real name was what she had earned through her work and deeds. She is Natalie.
"Natalie" someone called me as I turned around and saw my co-editor Josh coming my way.
"Why are you so late? I have been waiting for you half an hour now. What took you so long?" I asked.
"Sorry, the traffic here is getting worse" he apologised and sat across me.
" Anyway, I have been calling you many times. What are you so engrossed into. What were you thinking?" he asked.
" Oh! Nothing, just looking at the little boy?" I said indicating to the lonely little boy sitting on the bench across the street in the park." Wondering what would be his name?"
I wondered what would be his name in the future.
