I was an orphan, and either gifted or cursed that I could see those who still walked the Earth after they have passed away. Our caretaker wouldn't believe me tho. She thought I was just a kid with problems in the head. With that idea, she called a priest from God-knows-where to come and examine me to prove that I wasn't really seeing ghosts. A man came right away. He was wearing a black coat and a bowler hat, and he was carrying a cane with him.
As he and our caretaker were discussing in the lounge, I went to an abandoned room upstairs where the sun kissed almost every corner. There was another door at the left side leading to another room. It was closed but the top-half of the door was glass. I didn't mind anything for a while. I just sat there at the floor with my head resting on my knees.
I suddenly heard a slight creak and when I looked at the door inside the room, there was a man and a girl standing behind the glass, staring at me. They had no emotions on their faces. It was just blank and they just stood there. They weren't even blinking. I knew they were not one of the living. I didn't know what they wanted. As I sat there frozen in confusion, a sound of breath came from in front of me, and when I turned my head to see, there was a woman crouching in front of me. Her skin was cold grey, her hair was frizzy, and her eyes were pale blue. She was smiling at me, and before I could even react, she crawled towards me fast. Her face was an inch away from mine and it became distorted. It was messed up. I quickly closed my eyes and screamed. It was loud that our caretaker and priest rushed from downstairs to the room where I was. The woman was gone, and so was the man and the girl at the door. The priest walked around the room, and he peeked at the glass of the other door, but nothing was there. He said everything was fine. He went out, and so did the caretaker after giving me the looks of annoyance.
I stood up from the cold floor despite the room having sun rays hitting it, and took a breath. I was about to step out when the local priest from our orphanage came in.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked.
"Uhh, yeah. I'm okay."
He walked towards me and hugged me from the back.
"I was kind of worried when I heard you scream so I came to check on you..."
What he said after that became inaudible. I just felt his hand slowly sliding towards my crotch. He started fondling me and I felt disgusted, but I couldn't react to it. I was staring at the other door, and it was open. There was a little girl standing inside, staring at the man behind me.
"There's a girl looking at you." I said to him in a surprisingly calm manner.
He stopped touching me and in confusion he asked, "What?"
"She's looking at you. She's saying that you were her friend, so why did you do that to her."
He got startled and pushed me back. He looked at me like he was scared. I was not sure of what, but he looked at me like I was some dark entity he did not want to see. He rushed out of the room and left me there. I stood confounded. Suddenly images started flashing in my eyes. He was in this room, and so was the little girl. So were other kids in a different time. He touched them. He used them in this room. All the kids were too scared to say a word. But, that little girl, she was more than just touched. She had the worse, and met the worst end. He killed her in this room after what he did to her. After that, she was forgotten. She became nothing, less of a memory.
The time shifted and it was dark. I was sent to the sleeping quarters. Everyone else were asleep so I made my way towards my bed silently. Lying there was my bed buddy named Anne, facing the other side of the bed. I lied beside her and closed my eyes, but sleep wasn't coming any time sooner. I felt really cold since Anne used the blanket for herself.
"Hey, it's freezing." I said, even though I thought she was asleep.
She turned to face me and gave me a hug, since she seemed to be unwilling to share the blanket. I felt better at first. Then, I had the midnight urge to pee so I tried to break free from her arms but it felt too heavy.
"Hey Anne, I have to stand up."
I tried to wiggle my way out but I somehow can't. It was too tight.
"Anne!"
"mmmm."
She responded, but the voice did not came from beside me. It was from the other bed beside mine. She was there. Anne was lying there asleep. The arms around me felt more tighter, heavier, and cold. I looked at it, and what was embracing me was grey. I knew what it was, or who. I wanted to shout for help, but no voice came out. I was trying so hard to call for Anne but my thoughts became a mess and I somehow forgot her name and I couldn't call her.
I tried to break from its embrace once more. With all the strength I had, I did my best to push its arms apart, but I couldn't. Then all of a sudden, it lifted me up in the air, floating above my bed, with its arms still tightly wrapped around my body. I could see Anne lying on the other bed, and I wanted to call her name for help so bad but everything I tried to do was useless.
Just after a few seconds of floating in mid air, it dropped me back to the bed. I was breaking in tears, so with the consciousness I had left, I tried to scream. I did. I made a cracked, airy scream. I woke up.
