Halloween Night

The night was rather dark and sinister. There were rain clouds spread amongst the sky, covering the little bit of a glow that the moon would have been casting across the city, giving the place an eerily dark, and creepy look to it.

There was also a deep chill in the air on that night, rather cold for early autumn. The humans that were making their routes up and down the streets of the city had clouds of frozen vapor making its way from their mouths, with every single breath they exhaled.

It was the night of the year in which the angel hated the absolute most. Halloween. The night when all things scary and spooky came out to play amongst the humans.

It was the night in which Louis had to be at his most alert, as well. The worst of all the demons came out of their deepest corners of darkness to wreak havoc on unsuspecting prey on this certain night, every year. It was always Louis' job to try and clean-up the mess that all of those dark forces were bound to leave behind in their gruesome wake by the end of the night.

Death and possession from demons were a common occurrence in the world, and despite how much all of the higher-ranking angels tried, there was no stopping it from occurring completely. However, too much destruction and death in one place will cause an uproar amongst the humans, and that was something that Louis had to prevent at all costs, especially on that night of the year.

Louis was tasked with the duty every year, his higher-ranking cherubim brethren getting out of such tedious work amongst the humans. Instead, they would tend to God's every need. They were faithful servants that were ready to bow at the almighty lord's feet the moment he calls upon them to do so.

Those lucky few cherubim in that higher-ranking section were able to spend all of their time up in the palace and thrones that Heaven holds, never having to leave the warmth and protection that the kingdom has to offer them.

Louis wasn't one of the lucky cherubim to have been able to get such a luxury. Those such duties were given to only those that were the most exquisite out of his siblings. All cherubim were made to have flawless skin and the most-delicate of features, out of all the angels, but only a fair few were what you'd call: the fairest of them all.

Louis lets out a small breath as he observes the bustling city around him, looking for anything out of the ordinary that would be of any concern to him. It had been a rather slow night, especially for it being such a cold and dreary night for the sinister holiday.

However, the night was still fairly young, and kids were still out and about with their parents in all types of crazy costumes. They were all making their way around the city with buckets that would soon be filled to the brim with sweet treats. Most of the sugary candy would only end-up being secretly thrown away or hidden by the children's parents, which never seemed to make much sense with how much trouble they went to get all of it in the first place.

That was the one part of the holiday that Louis never seemed to truly understand. Parents allowing their kids to dress up as something other than themselves for a day, to go around asking strangers for candy. It was something that the angel truly couldn't fathom how humans allowed such a thing to come to be with such a dark holiday.

The cherub watches as an older child, probably in their early teenage years, leads their younger sibling across the street. Both of them dressed as some type of monsters that Louis couldn't even begin to understand their origin, or name, for that matter.

The eldest out of the two clutches tightly onto their energetic sibling's hand, keeping them from running out into the oncoming traffic. It was always perplexing to Louis that parents would allow their kids out by themselves on such a night like Halloween.
