Some say it was the Big Bang Theory that created the universe, others say it was God. Countless efforts made to prove which one was right. From theories to evidences, time passed yet any hope for any sort of coexistence seemed futile. What if I told you it was love that created the universe? Sounds crazy but hang on, it will all make sense as we venture deep into this intergalactic love story, and as you know, where there is love, there’s bound to be war.
Ah, Adriana Galaxy, the place we called home. Adriana was an advanced planetary system in the cosmos. It consisted of 5 planets: Helium, Neon, Krypton, Xenon and Argon. Each planets core offered a particular beam of energy which helped sustain life on the planets. To this point, no other galaxies were found, we were alone in the pitch black blanket of space. The planets lived peacefully without interaction as we were growing through our own evolution. As time passed, each planet and its inhabitants evolved, both in power and knowledge. Though we made technological advancements, we couldn’t seem to figure out how to evolve from hate. It’s believed that hate didn’t exist in our peaceful homes, love was all around, till the day knowledge took over. There were 5 planets and the core of each of them were made of crystals of different types of matter. the singular core was powerful enough to sustain the planet, so imagine what two or more would do? The thought and need for more power corrupted some of the leaders, especially those of the planet Argon. While the knowledge of the unification of the crystals made leaders of the other planet hope for globalisation and a better future, Argon and its people were power hungry.
For centuries, War waged on and in the process the Planet Neon was completely decimated while Helium and Krypton were overthrown. The refugees fled to Xenon, the largest of the planets. Despite Argon’s rampage, they were equally matched to Xenon. The planets energy radiated into their people so as Argon took over, they had acquired the energy of the other two planets while it was the same for Xenon, as refugees took their energy and merged it with Xenon’s core. Now there were only two planets remaining which were both equally matched. Neon’s energy was needed to make either of the side win but it had been lost to war. The planet was destroyed by its inhabitants due to Argons fear. They wouldn’t let Argon take what was theirs in the name of domination. As time passed, Xenon became a safe haven for its people and its refugees. Now there weren’t three different energy sources on Xenon, but it had become one.
I wasn’t sure which planet I belonged to before the war, my memory fails me. All I remember is growing up on the streets on Xenon, trying to fit in. I would often dream about what life would have been like on the other planets, you know, like before the war. “Maybe one day you will son”, said Nan. Ah, Nan, not biologically related to me but she took me in when she found me in the ruckus of war. She would often tell me that even through the chaos of war, she found me smiling, as though I wasn’t fazed by it. She had lost her son so for her, I was the universes answer to her prayer. Her love was too much. It was evident by the smile on my face and the size of my belly. She would feed me, a lot. “Eat up sonny, if you want to be big and strong, you have to eat” she said. “But Nana, I am full”, I replied. She would forcefully feed me anyways, what would I do without her love and care.
It was hard to mix with the kids my age, I never knew why. I wasn’t academically nor physically gifted, but I had something they didn’t, and that was lunch and nanas love. “Hey, could I join you guys?”, I asked, as I saw some of the boys playing sport. “Nah weirdo” said the cool kid, “fat boys don’t run” said the other as they laughed. Though the classes were proper and advanced, I seemed to have difficulty with keeping up. Often out of the whole class, I would often get low marks. One thing that would make classes bearable was my best friend, Jeffrey. Why you may ask? Well it’s because wherever I would get the second lowest, he would be the one would get the lowest, so you can kind of tell why we were best friends.” Aye Jeff, planning on scoring a hat trick with your low grades?”, I asked. Laughingly he replied,” Ay man, you know we got to stick together”.  Despite being physically gifted and one of the cool kids, I’d be surprised as to why he hung out with me so I asked him, to which he replied,” Because you are my best friend, and more importantly, you are my brother”. I swear he had a soft spot for me the weirdo.
One week before the major exams, I get call from the main office and that day, everything changed. My best friend comes looking for me but alas, I’m nowhere to be found. “Excuse me Office Lady, have you seen my brother Josh”, he asks. She kindly replied, “He was here a while ago, he had an emergency phone call, his nan passed away”. As soon as he heard that, he ran to look for me, but it too late, I was long gone by then. To this day regret fills my heart, I wish I could have seen her one last time but I knew deep down if I did, I’d fall apart. Love hurts, love heals, love gives, love steals, it is strong enough to build you up, but can also make you kneel.
Unknown soul in a known city, I ran away here looking for change. Technology was at its peak. Worked odd jobs for a living, but never could stay too long at a job, which meant there would be a stain on my resume.” Maybe because you’re a failure”, “Maybe if you had studied hard enough”, “Seriously, you’re complaining? Other teens your age do it with ease”, “You’re just lazy, just making excuses”, voices would echo in my head with no stop. I try and sleep but failure would always shock me with a rude awakening. Due to my kindness, I was offered internship at a place where we were on the verge of making intergalactic travel possible beyond our little galaxy, to see how far the vastness of space would spread out. I had learned a lot. “You’re exceptional for someone who’s been called a failure, how would you like to work on a new project?”, said the director. I was speechless at first but I agreed in excitement.
‘Let me introduce you to your project partner, Jen………”. He was talking but I couldn’t hear him. I was gobsmacked, for there she was, something so beautiful, it made everything and everyone else inadequate. I won’t lie, I drooled for a bit. But quickly snapped back to reality. “Hi, I’m Jen”, she said. Nervously I replied,” H…hhh……Hi……..I’m Josh”. Quite often I would forget my equations and the stuff I had learned because, whenever she was close, it’s like everything would disappear and fade away while she was in the spotlight. At this point I didn’t know if was love or infatuation, so I kept quiet. She was a mystery, never the type to express her feelings, which made pursuing her worth it. One day, she didn’t come to work. I searched for her but alas, nowhere to be found. After a few hours, I had gotten to know that her Nan was very sick. Sickness worked a different way. Those who were born on the planet harnessed the energy from the core, yet those who were refugees would grow weak as time went as their planets core were destroyed in the war.
I waited for her outside. In my head, I was wondering of what I would say to her, but as soon as she saw me, she ran up to me and hugged me. for those who knew her, she wasn’t much of a hugging type but at that moment, it was needed. In such a raw and pure moment, night turned into day, together we lay, and experienced love deeper than words could say. Weeks go on by and she breaks the news to me, our love was fruitful. I was both shocked and scared. We were almost finished with our project when her water broke. “A son”, the doctor said”. I teared up, my world was now complete. We chose the name Trent, which meant flowing water, flowing knowledge. We also managed to complete our project, Xenon’s first intergalactic space travel vehicle was complete. It was an odd shape, a pyramid shaped vehicle.
Alas, my happiness wouldn’t last. One thing I never got to find out was where I was from. Little did I know that I was the last living survivor from the Planet Neon, which meant the last bit of energy that was once our home planet was in me and it has passed down unto my son. What that meant was he was the combination of every energy that existed in a small soul. War had been stalled for years but as soon as the people of Argon knew that the last two pieces they needed were no longer a myth, they attacked. My son was too young to infuse his pure energy with Xenon whereas Argon would risk a sacrifice. The great war waged, the whole of Argon fighting to kill this innocent life while the whole of Xenon fighting to protect it. The energies were so strong that they ripped open a wormhole away, a gateway and behold, a new galaxy. It was unlike ours. The battle of the energies was so strong that it created a cosmic shift which birthed planets as same as ours. “You have to take him and go, Argon won’t stop unless they kill him”, said the director. My wife and I, along with our baby boarded the newly built ships and it raced towards the portal. We managed to cross it in time as it collapsed on itself, thus creating a super nova which blasted us further that the ship was made to go. We had set coordinates for the big bright yellow planet but the supernova propelled us towards a funny looking planet. It was blue, green and white all clustered in the middle and our ship was heading straight towards it. As we entered into its atmosphere, the ship broke into pieces. Jen held unto our baby tight, but before I could run up to them and hold them tight, the ship crashed.
Scattered pieces of debris everywhere, fire all around. As soon as I regained my consciousness, I ran outside. To my surprise, the ship had smashed into 3 triangular pieces, somewhat intact, yet no sight of my family. Suddenly, I heard Trent’s cries. “My family, they’re alive”, I yelled as I raced towards them. Trent was hardly injured, but Jen, who was my world, lay there, lifeless, with Trent in her embrace. Even as she grew weak, she hugged our child so no one else would hurt him. I sat there, with Trent in my arm, and Jen in my laps, waiting, for this planet to consume us too. We were not meant for this planet. As all hope seems lost, I see figures approaching in the distance. Barbaric looking, they were…. humans. Like us, but as if the shift had turned back time to the stone ages. They spoke their language; I couldn’t comprehend but before them was a sight that language didn’t need to explain.
I knew it wouldn’t be long before I would have to leave. I taught the newly made friends our ways, although they were made from us so I knew they would adapt to evolution and learn fast. It’s a slow process but change takes time, that’s how we learnt and that’s how they will too. Learn to love, learn to live and live to learn. The ability to have power isn’t the issue, the issue is the inability to use it for life, for love. Regrets and mistakes are nothing but stepping stones, learn from them, use them to grow, never fear them. You were born to make a change, do not sleep on that potential. Lastly, express love in every way you can. It was love that made you, it was love that fought for you, and it was love that died for you so why would you do anything else, then to live for it?
