" Hello there!
I hope you're in a comfortable place, both physically and psychologically, because you're about to listen to what " perfect girl " has brought to the game.
I will not even say her name, because, by the end of this tape everyone will know exactly who she is and how she has let me down."
It was Tuesday and the clock on the nightstand read 7 A.M.
The alarm clock was about to go off in 5 minutes, but Amber was already up, she had to get ready for school asap since her boyfriend was bound to pick her up in 20 minutes.
After a quick shower and brushing her teeth, she put her hair up in a ponytail and put on her light blue jeans, sports bra and a grey sweater, she put some makeup on and as soon as she was all set, ran down the stairs to the kitchen to grab a granola bar and water bottle stuff them in her gym bag and be on her way.
As if on cue, the familiar black jeep showed up in her driveway and she smiled.
"Morning babe!" he said showing his white teeth.
She jumped into the passenger seat smiling, put her seatbelt on and gave her boyfriend a peck on the lips.
The whole ride went as usual, they listened to their playlist, her hand on his thigh, him brushing his fingers over hers from time to time, smiling at her.
As they got out of the car and she looked at him, she could not help but think that she should tell him about the tapes, after all, her life revolves around him and he will eventually notice something was off.
"Babe... earth to Berry!" Monty said, snapping her out of her thoughts.
"Yeah, sorry! I zoned out there for a minute," she said taking his hand and starting to walk with him towards the school.
As soon as they entered the halls, she spotted the other subject of her attention for the day, Clay Jensen, she knew he was next to get them, and she was worried he might snap.
Clay noticed them and waved at her, she responded with a small smile and opened her locker looking for her Math books. A picture of her under her best friend's arm was stuck on the inside of her locker, she looked at it and sighed.
Monty caught that and gently rubbed her arm, "I'm here for you baby," was all he said before grabbing her chin and gently turning her head to face him. As she looked into his brown eyes, she knew that the boy standing in front of her would do anything to make her feel better, to make her smile. She leaned into him and started sobbing.
"Let's get to class," she said wiping the tears off her cheeks, "being late does not help your case."
He playfully hit her shoulder and she giggled. They parted ways as he reached the Science lab and she was headed to Math.
The day went by in the blink of an eye, she was on her way to leave when she saw Monty picking on some skinny kid.
"Oh, come on, Mon, what could he have possibly done to you, leave the kid alone!" she went to them and took his hands of the poor kid, "it's ok, go!" she told him. The kid gave her a small smile and ran inside the school.
"I was just messing with him, babe."
"Well, stop it!" she was a little annoyed by how he treated the ones he considered "freaks", she was a "freak" herself, I mean she was 5ft.10 for fuck's sake, they were the same height, you don't see a girl that tall every day.
Across from them Clay and Tony were sitting in the red Mustang, watching the whole scene take place.
"I don't know man, why is she with him, they're complete opposites," Clay said irritated.
"Everyone must have a flaw, Clay, and as a dear friend of mine used to say, he is her biggest flaw."
Clay nodded and looked forward while Tony put in a cassette for them to listen.
"You're still on the old media, huh?"
"Aha, it's so much better."
"Everything was better before," Clay answered.
Amber and Monty got into his jeep and drove to their spot on one of the cliffs nearby. It was sunny, but still a little chilly. As they sat there in silence, she took his arm and placed it over her shoulder, before lighting up a cigarette.
"This, you know it's gonna kill you, right?"
"Ooh, like the amounts of weed you smoke will not?" she asked sarcastically.
"It's used to alleviate pain, Ber," he said before kissing her cheek.
She rolled her eyes and climbed onto his lap facing him.
"Ber, if you don't want the cliff we're sitting on to be the hardest in this daylight, I would stop," he laughed.
"Why wouldn't I?" she asked before kissing his collarbone, "I thought we were goals because we loved risks."
Monty's eyes widened as she put her hand between his legs, feeling just how hard he really was.
"I thought you were on your period," he said with a dumb look on his face.
"I am, but you're not," she smiled "now let's go to the car."
He did not say anything, he only took her hand and walked towards the jeep with the same dumb look on his face.
When playtime was over, he drove to her house. As they exited the car, Amber's eyes caught a glimpse of Alex getting out of his "hey, winkey!" she said while waving.
"Oh, hey Ber!" he said in a low voice.
It hurt her that Alex cut her off like that, it all started when she joined the track team, for some reason he started to avoid her, he would even try that at family dinners and it pissed her off, they were best friends, the three musketeers.
Monty got her out of her trip down memory lane when he put his arm around her shoulders.
"Why keep bothering to talk to the freak, Ber? He ignores you like he's some kind of big deal, like he can do better, well guess what, that idiot does not deserve a friend like you."
All Amber could do was sigh, she nodded her head and went inside with Monty.
When they reached her room, they each took a shower and went to bed, she loved this, falling asleep in his arms was the most comforting feeling of them all, inhaling his scent all night long, she was addicted to him.
