School Ghost Stories

A Strange Rumor

One summer night before debut, practice continues despite the oppressive heat.

"Late-night snacks have arrived!" Hoseok exclaims, setting down the food on the practice room floor. The rest of the members sit down around the food, sweating after another passionate and tiring dance routine. Their faces light up with the sight of the delicious food infront of them.

"Chicken, what's your dream? My dream is to debut," says Taehyung to the chicken leg he picked up. "Ah, hyung. Let's play rock paper scissors to decide who gets the chicken leg," Jungkook says. The members stuff their faces with food while Jungkook and Taehyung squabble to decide who gets the chicken leg.

After a few more stuffings, Hoseok looks out the window to the beautiful night sky. The full moon shines brightly in the sky casting shadows to the buildings. " But what are those buildings in the hills behind the chicken shop?" he asks the group.

Namjoon looks up, his mouth smeared with sauce. " l heard that it's an abandoned school. There's a rumor that everyone who's ever seen a ghost there, hit it big right after," he says wiping the sauce from his lips. "Psh. Someone's telling tall tales. That's just a rumor to attract tourists," Yoongi says waving a hand at Namjoon.

"Right. Ghosts don't exist. If they do... I'm gonna cry," Jimin says, pouting. Jin shakes his head at Jimin and looks at Yoongi, " Why, there's an industry rumor, too. If you see a ghost while producing an album, that album will be a huge hit!" Jin says.

Jungkook suddenly drops his chicken leg, which he won from playing rock paper scissors with Taehyung, and goes to get his jacket. " I'm going to see a ghost. We need a hit! " Jungkook says tying his sneakers. "Ah, someone stop him." Jin groans, his head in his hands. "Hmm... Ghosts and Jungkook? That might work.. " Namjoon says.

" I'll be right back, so keep eating. Don't touch my chicken leg!" Jungkook says grabbing a flashlight from the shelf. "Wait! What kind of hyungs would we be if we let the maknae run off on his own?!" Jimin says. "Park Jimin.. Don't do it. Don't!" Hoseok stares at Jimin, his eyes quavering. Jimin looks at Jungkook "We're loyal! We'll go with you!" he says determined. The members groan and stand up to get their jackets and essential needs, this is what happens when the maknae's braver than the hyungs.

"Why'd I do this again?" Jimin whines holding onto Yoongi. They arrived on the hill where the abondened school lies. The moon casts a light to the building giving it an eery vibe. "How very bleak. I'd honestly be surprised if we didn't see a ghost," Yoongi says, bored. Hoseok looks at Namjoon with wide eyes. "Namjoon. Do we really have to go in? You're our rational leader... Think carefully,"

"Rationality and science can't answer everything. The world is also full of unexplained, non-scientific phenomena, " Namjoon says. "C'mon, I'm hungry. Let's go in and get this over with," Jungkook whines. Namjoon looks at the maknae and shake his head. "Okay. One game, the loser  takes the flashlight and leads the way," he says turning to the group.

"Hello, angel out there.. You understand, right? Rock, paper or scissors? Please help me! I can't lead!" Teahyung says his eyes squeezed shut. "Your guardian angel always tell you to play scissors, everyone be aware!" Jungkook exclaims. Taehyung scowls at Jungkook. "Hmph, no I'm not! You snooze, you lose! Rock, paper.. "

"Scissors!" all members exclaim, putting a hand in the middle of the group. "Ah! My guardian angel! Thank you!" Taehying exclaims. "Hah... That scared me to death. Thanks for losing, Hoseok! " Jin says patting a shooked Hoseok.

"Guys, you can't leave me and run away! Stick together and survive!" Hoseok says to the group clutching the flashlight in his shaking hands. "Scatter we die!!" the members say behind Hoseok.

Step by step, Hoseok leads the group cautiously into the dark. "Hey, don't push! Kim Taehyung, that was you, wasn't it?" Jimin glares at Taehyung. Taehyung looks at Jimin. "I didn't push you? " says Taehyung confused. "Watch where you're going, the floor's really uneven." Namjoon assures the group. "Ah! Hmph, I tripped, " Taehyung says right after Namjoon assured them.

"Holy- What's that white thing on the window?!" Jin exclaims pointing to a white flouting figure at the window. "Curtains. They're curtains." Jungkook says reassuring Jin. "Something keeps falling from the ceiling. Is it water?" Jimin says patting his head. "What is it? Hoseok hyung, point the light at the ceiling." Jungkook says.

Something dark rushes at Hoseok as soon as he turns the flashlight upwards...

"AAAH!! " the members screams echo off the walls of the abandoned school followed by the sounds of feet scrabbling to get up and running away.

... And a small bat flits into the darkness leaving Hoseok sprawled on the floor.
