Chapter One

We were walking out the iron room. My brother had trained inside the particular room, at only 5 years old he has accomplished something most adults found impossible. He used magic inside the iron room. Witches from the old world enchanted the room; no one could use magic within those walls. I could not even shift but Aiden had made a fire materialize. I knew he made it by magic because the flames had burned but felt as cold as ice.

“Our Aiden is powerful huh?” My uncle beamed with a huge smile.

“Yes he is.” I laughed seeing my brothers disgruntled face as a ruffled his hair. The three of us walked down the hall.  I heard snapping sounds, as if someone were being lashed. The sound grew louder as we neared a room we had to pass.

I stopped to take a glance, a girl was lying down on her stomach, back exposed and four guards repeatedly strike at her back with silver whips. I felt a tug on my sleeve “Bam-Bam she’s blind.” Worry was evident in my brother’s voice as he gripped my arm. She tilted her head in the direction of the door that in return made one of the guards strike at her neck right above her jugular vein. She whimpered then gave a menacing growl.

“STOP AT ONCE” I yelled fully opening the door. The guards looked at “Why are you doing this to her?”

“She disrespected us.” One of them replied smugly, no doubt he felt his pride had been challenged. How could a girl that young even disrespect men of their size? What could she even have done to deserve being whipped? The guards had raised their arms to start the whipping again “That’s it!!.” My uncles booming voice yelled, “You’re all fired…”

“But sire-“

“No buts...JUST LEAVE.” He snapped his fingers as the guards well now ex-guards were leaving. A young man ran up to us “Eric take her to her room please.” My uncle said, although he had a gentle voice the authority was not missing.

“Yes Sire.” The boy nodded, the boy. Eric walked over to her, took off his jacket, and lightly placed it on her back. No matter how gentle he had tried to be, she still winced when the material had touched her skin. He very carefully lifted her he began walking away. I caught a glimpse of her. The girls features were delicate, Soft pure ivory skin her flaming red hair covered most of her heart shaped face, her eyes though were covered with a black sash as though blindfolded. I wonder if the guards did that when they whipped her.

“Adrian.” I looked at my uncle as he said my name “You should take your brother home” I nodded solemnly.

“Good bye uncle.” I took Aiden’s hand and walked out the door. I would have liked asking about the girl with the crimson hair but I knew better than to ask questions that would never be answered. “So wanna get some ice-cream?”  I asked Aiden once we were out of the council hall. He nodded his head rapidly and took of running to our car.
