Tolein of the Underworld

Ch.1

"Can you help?" Tolien says to his mother, showing her his failed attempt at tying a tie.

Today is Toliens first court date. He's never been to court especially in Heaven and he could only imagine the harsh differences between earth government and Gods form of government.

His mother helps with his tie and uses her hand to smooth out his long sleeve, white button up shirt.

He turns around to have one last look in the mirror before they head to the court.

[In court]

"Tolien Andrews, you're accused of sexual assault to Angela Hughes, how do you plead?" Says Judge Canton.

"Not guilty, your honor" Tolien says. He begins to shake slightly.

After a small talk between the judge and Toliens lawyer, who is seated next to him, Judge Canton leans more toward "not guilty" but then he hears Angela's side.

She's sat at another table horizontal from Tolien with her head down as she rubs her right arm up and down. She refuses to speak, so her lawyer speaks on her behalf.

The lawyer shows pictures of bruises and cuts on Angela's body, claiming Tolien put them there, that Angela says she fought her way out of his grasp because he slapped her, which there is a picture of a hand print on her face. He also claims Tolien attempted to rape her which is not something that Angela told the Guardian Angel's.

Because of this, Judge Canton and the jury give Tolien a nasty look. Tolien looks down, he would never dream of doing such a thing, especially to someone he once loved, someone he wish he could still love.

Toliens lawyer objects and throws in evidence that Tolien and Angela were no where near the same vicinity at the time she claims these things happened. His lawyer continues to back him up and eventually, Judge Canton invites Toliens mother to the podium.

"My son is not a monster. Angela, why would you ever... He never did this to you. He was on the way to my house for dinner. We loved and cared for you and this is how you repay us??" His mother focuses on speaking to Angela rather than providing more than little information about Tolien. She is excused from the podium. And since there were no witnesses for Angela, the jury was sent to the backroom to begin making their decision.

Tolien heads to the bathroom to calm down and sits in a bathroom stall with his head in his hands.

"I love you baby"
"I can't wait till we can get married"
"You will be my forever"

Lies, he thought. The whole relationship was a lie. His skin crawls and his face heats up.

"Please dont ever hurt me" Angela says while her and Tolien are cuddled up in his bed. He gently puts the hair hanging in her face behind her ear and kisses her forehead.

"Never babygirl" He pulls her in closer and they both fade to sleep.

Tolien and Angela are at the park on the swings and laughing. He gets up off of his swing and gets behind Angela.

"Want me to push you?" He asks

"Yeeesssss"

They head to get ice cream and are sitting at a picnic table, they make small talk and Tolien falls more in love with her just looking at her.

Later on they go to the beach at sunset. Toliens been planning this for a while now. Shes happy after the date. Shes having a good time. Its finally the perfect time.

Tolien gets down on one knee in front of Angela, a group of people near them see it and start walking over, "aw"-ing the sight. He spills his heart out to Angela and she just sits there, listening.

When hes done talking and finally asks...

"Please Angela, will you make me the happiest man in the world... and marry me?" He looks at Angela with a hopeful look. She has a blank face.

"No"

Everyone watching covers their mouths and one girl started crying saying how sad that was.

The corners of Toliens mouth drop quick and he almost cries.

"Why?"

"I cant" tears spring to her eyes.

"HEY!" There was another mans voice. Everyone turned to look the direction it came from.

"What the fuck are you doing with my girlfriend?" the man says.

Tolien snaps back to reality and realizes he's crying rivers. He gets up and goes to the sink, looking in the mirror at his puffy eyes, wondering how long he'd been in there.

He fixes his face, takes a deep breath, and goes out the door and back to the courtroom.

The jury still isnt back. Walking up the aisle, Tolien imagines what it would be like if she had said yes. He's hurt she lied to him though, for how long, he doesnt know. He doesnt know why she would try to accuse him of these things. All he ever did was love her and take care of her and she paid him back by stabbing him in the back with another boyfriend.

Finally, the jury comes out and sits in their section.

"We've come to a conclusion your honor".
