6: A "Date" with Dib

"As for mythology and folklore, my views on them are the same. I idolize the idea of maybe one day seeing one of those creatures in person, especially that one that lives in the bottom of Lake Ness. I don't believe every creature exists, but I know for sure that some definitely do. I understand not believing, especially since some of the creatures are depicted as dangerous, but if you do, remember that many gentle creatures may also exist as well, you just have to take the good with the bad. That's all, I'll sit back down now."

Surprisingly, no one commented as I walked back to my seat and sat down. Everyone seemed a little surprised of the things that I said, aside from Ms. Bitters whose vibe was normal. She did not make a comment about my grade like she did with the other students and simply asked for the next student to come up and show their painting to the class. Before too long, the bell rang and school was officially done today. Students began to hurriedly pack up their things and leave the classroom in a rush. I was expecting to hear whispers about the things I said, but the students were oddly quiet as they headed out of the class. Even though I knew what I said probably did not make their opinions change, I was glad that they were no longer interested in bothering me, for now at least. I began to pack up my things as someone walked over to the front of my desk.

"We need to talk."

I look up to see Zim standing in front of my desk with an irritated expression. "Is it about what I said earlier? I hope I didn't offend you or anything," I smile awkwardly as he lets out a small sigh. Before he could get another word in however, he glances at Dib who was behind me and suddenly storms off without another word. Dib then walks over in front of my desk with a slightly annoyed expression before turning to me with a semi forced smile. "Are you ready to go, (y/n)? I think you'll really like where we'll be going," he asked me as I put on my book bag. Before I could reply, another voice spoke up. "Dib, could you leave the classroom? I want to have a word with (y/n) alone."

As soon as Dib left the room, Ms. Bitters floated over to the door to shut it. I heard the door click, meaning she had locked it as well. She swiftly made her way over to me until her eyes were inches away from my own. "I know who you are, tell me why I shouldn't kill you where you stand right now," she hissed as something sharp was gently pressed against my neck. "For one, it's not very acceptable for a teacher to kill one of her students. If you killed me here and now, what then? What about the cleanup, cover story and let's not forget that my family will find out about my disappearance sooner than later. More importantly, I'm not ready to die quite just yet. There's so much more I want to experience in this universe, as you might have got from what I told the class earlier," I declared, attempting not to lose my cool as the sharp thing was pressed further into my skin. There was a brief moment of silence before the pressure left my neck, but even though it was not touching me anymore it's presence still lingered. "You make good points, so I'll listen to what you have to say. But tell any lies-" She held the sharp object back up to my throat. "It will be your end, Heiress."

She then backed off and I briefly saw insect-like arms retreat underneath her clothes. I touched my throat and let out a sigh of relief to see that it was not bleeding and then glanced at Ms. Bitters. "So, I guess you're one of my mother's victims. I'm sorry to hear that, I really don't have any control of what she does though so I can't really help you on that note," I state as a rattling noise filled the room. Suddenly, she lunged back at me so that her face was mere inches away from mine. "You think I want your condolences? My entire race was annihilated all because of your mother! Now I'm forced to live in hiding and have to be around these revolting human children because there's no where else to go! You have her blood, you'll be just like her one day won't you?" she growled as the rattling sound grew louder. "No, I'm not like her at all. I don't get a rush from doing the stuff she does, neither do my siblings. We all have our struggles, but that's no excuse to harass others to make yourself feel better. I really am sorry that this happened to you and that my mother was involved in it, but I can't change the past or change her for that matter. If you want revenge on her by killing one of her children, fine I won't put up a fight, but just know that revenge isn't worth getting yourself killed over," I say softly as my eyes slowly began to close.
