It was a chilly morning in the grand city of Székesfehérvár. Székesfehérvár was known as a holy city, where kings were crowned but this story isn't about any kings but rather a simple man living a simple life. He owned a small cobbler's workshop in the city and was known by most residents.
This man who was named Szabolcs Csillag by his parents, was often referred to simply as Bruh. That particular morning as the sky changed from black to navy to pink, the sun rose and its thin fingers slowly spread and lit up the previously darkened landscape, that light flickered through the blinds in Bruh's house, waking him up. Bruh soon woke up and donned his jorts, and proceeded to head to the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash his face. Bruh then ate a simple breakfast: some brown bread and a glass of milk delivered by the dairy farmer's daughters. As Bruh enjoyed his simple breakfast, he was joined by his trusted companion, his meerkat Niggacat, leapt up from his cushiony bed and slinked towards Bruh to greet him by rubbing his leg against Bruh's ankle. Bruh would always pet his beloved meerkat, finish his milk, put on his coat and head out for his workshop.
As Bruh walked down the street, he was greeted by warm smiles and cheerful hellos. Bruh then reached his small, quaint workshop and opened it up. He'd take down the closed sign and add the open one in its place. Soon enough, as Bruh warmed the stool he'd be sitting on, the bell would ring which would make it known that customers had walked through the front door. Bruh's gaze immediately darted over to the customer's face. A young girl, blond with hazel eyes that displayed a hint of bronze. Her face had freckles and she had a wide smile, her hair was rather dry but Bruh didn't care for Bruh's gaze never lingered for long on people's faces. Instead, he turned his sight aimed directly at the girl's feet. Bruh saw her hempen sandals and would always assess his customer's footwear looking for any damages that he might be asked to repair. Of course, Bruh's eyes would often wander off and direct itself to the girl's toes. He couldn't control himself at times. He noticed the toes hadn't been washed in ages and if he sniffed at the air, the pungent odor would reach him.
But Bruh quickly attempted to focus on the customer's words, she explained that one of the straps of her new sandals had broken and she needed a repair as soon as possible. Bruh nodded and took the sandals and offered some complimentary cleaning as well due to there being small clumps of toe jam on the sandals' interior.
Soon enough, Bruh received more and more customers and would continue repairing, polishing and cleaning shoes and earn his salary. A hard-working man, he was regarded as a good man around these parts. Many were surprised he hadn't been married yet, the man was in his mid-twenties after all and seemed like a gentleman. Yes, he was a nice guy indeed, but alas he lived in a society.
But Bruh had other things in his mind other than cooch. As Bruh closed up his small shop and headed home with his pockets heavier with copper and silver coins, the streets seemed quieter and the moon seemed to stare at him from its position in the sky. The moon's glare gave Bruh an unsettling feeling and soon enough, he began walking faster to his house. A desperation suddenly swallowed Bruh and as he burst open his door with vigor, his beloved friend was not there to greet him as he always did. Bruh fell to his knees and yelled a piercing scream. "NIGGACAT! NIGGACAT!" yelled Bruh with all the wind in his lungs. Before Bruh could calm down, the moon that was staring him down suddenly disappeared. The night was quiet and empty, so very empty. How would Bruh continue to live without his meerkat companion? A shadow soon loomed over Bruh, and as Bruh looked up, he saw a tall, eerie man with pale silver hair. Bruh rapidly stood up and looked at the face of the man. The man spoke with a chilling voice, "That was your meerkat, yes? Well, I'm afraid, I must be taking it." Bruh's eyes flared with rage and he exclaimed, "Why?! Not my Niggacat! Anything but Niggacat!" The man explained, "Your meerkat isn't any ordinary meerkat but rather it has something special. I'm sure you've noticed the star tattoo on it's underbelly..." Bruh cut him off, "Underbelly Angler." The man continued, "Um, yes...? Well, this star tattoo holds great power and I'm taking the meerkat to La UPI for further investigations and tests." Bruh's eyes opened up and he gaped, "La UPI? The La UPI?"
The man replied with a slight sneer, "Yes, that's right, it'll be properly taken care of in DMN, I assure you." Bruh wasn't having any of it, "I won't just stand aside and let you take Niggacat without a fight!" Bruh then took the glock cleverly hidden in the backpocket of his jorts and fired three shots at the man. The man stopped the bullets by flicking them away. Bruh stood there astounded. The man simply chuckled at Bruh's surprise and said, "If you really want your meerkat back, then it's a long way from here to Rio Piedras! And oh, you'll most likely want to obtain an ability before you try to challenge a true gallito such as myself! Farewell, Bruh!"
With that, the man disappeared and Bruh stood there, a broken man. But then Bruh's eyes lit up and his resolve was stronger than ever. He knew how he would gain back his meerkat, he needed to get gains and there was only man who could coach him properly...
To be continued...?
