The entire room was silent as we all waited for the judge to make his decision. My heart literally stopped beating. I grasped Emily’s hand nervously. She gave mine a squeeze reassuring me that she was there for me no matter what. I never imagined that I could love another after Lexi’s death. But here she was, and I loved her.
“I have reached a decision.” The judge finally announced.
This was it. This decision would change my life forever. Either I would finally have my daughter with me where she belonged, or I would spend the rest of my life missing another broken piece of my heart.
