Dedication: this is dedicated to a squishy poteto, you know who you are :>
A/N: This is inspired by a lot of those soft chinese novels hence their names.
Reminder: This book is a work of fiction. So this isn't all accurate, just stuff I thought off, hehe.

The rain was pouring hard, and the power was out.
Bai Mei was shivering, first from the cold, and then the dark.
She was alone in the cold, pitch black, empty room. Her boyfriend, Fu Jin, was stuck in his company, working late. She didn't trust herself to go outside into the living room all by herself. First of all, she was a huge scaredy-cat, and her eyesight was blurry from when she accidentally dropped her glasses a few days ago, and was too bothered to wear her contacts at home. Jin told her she might need it soon, and he was right. Again.
The wind howled, and the rain pelted against the window, as Mei focused on breathing. She was all alone, in the apartment, no one to save her in case someone comes and tries to murder her-
Boom!
A cry escaped her lips as thunder shook the sky. Fu Jin, when are you coming home?
But of course, that was impossible. While she was busy at work, he had left a voice mail, leaving specific details about why he couldn't join her tonight.
"I'll be staying here all night in the office so don't wait for me. Call me if anything happens."
She felt like she wanted to vomit. She really wanted to cry.
Just then, she heard the door creak open...and she immediately stilled. When the power went out, the security for the apartment also died down, since they needed electricity to work..
Now Bai Mei wanted to cry. She was about to get robbed! She froze in her place, hoping the robber wouldn't mind the big black lump on the bed, slightly shivering.
There was no sound after that, only the door slowly creaking shut, behind the figure. The floor was carpeted, so Bai Mei couldn't really hear anything. Her ears tried to pick any type of sound, her muscles tensed. She wasn't alone anymore...and that was scarier.
Warm, strong arms, suddenly enveloped her from behind, making her squeak. If this was a kidnap, she would've fought till death, but this person seemed content with her simply being in his arms.
"J-Jin?" She whispered. The man deeply inhaled, before she felt him nod his head.
"Mm."
"Don't scare me like that!" She whisper-shouted. Her heart almost jumped out of her chest. She thought something bad would happen.
"Sorry," she felt him kiss her through the thick blanket between them. He went inside the fortress she made in the bed, and together they cuddled. Her in her pajamas, and him in his dress shirt and trousers.
"I-I thought you had overtime?" She asked.
"Mm. I remember you also had Nyctophobia and the power shortage was today, so I stole my coworkers umbrella and drove here," he deadpanned.
Bai Mei felt her heart soften. This boyfriend of hers, can be really dense and caring at the same time, ah.....
She was surprised he still remembered her phobia and tried to ease her fear. Was he really not scared of the dark?
For Bai Mei, she wasn't scared of anything else, but the darkness. She didn't like how she couldn't see anything against the eerie nothingness a dark room could bring. What if there was something else in the room and she was vulnerable?
For Fu Jin, he didn't fear anything else but his girlfriend. But he didn't tell her that.
While the rain continued it's brutal attacks, Bai Mei was snuggled deep in her boyfriend's arms, while he comfortingly patted her back.
"Jin?"
"Hmm?"
"We don't have food in the fridge, so I ate dinner with a few of my friends a while ago. "
"No worries, we'll buy tomorrow."
"Okay." The air around them was peaceful, as the storm continued to rage on.
"Jin?"
"Mm?"
"When will you go back?"
"A little later."
"Jin?"
"Yeah?" She yawned before patting his cheek sleepily.
"I love you." She felt warm lips touch her forehead, softly.
"I know. Go to sleep. You still have work tomorrow."

It was 3:40 am, when Fu Jin got out of the bed, bleary eyed, and still in his work clothes. The rain had stopped and Bai Mei was sleeping peacefully, a calm look on her face.
He changed from his old clothes and got out into the living room to make breakfast.
A while later, his phone vibrated in his pocket, and unhurriedly, picked it up, to see a message from his coworker.
Mr. Fu Jin, you better come back right now! You owe me breakfast after finishing your report the whole night. Also, can I get my umbrella back?
-Coworker An
With a swear, he drank his coffee and bolted out of the door, but not before leaving a hot bowl of porridge and bread on the table, with a sticky note attached on the ceramic side.
Off to work. Reheat the food in case it gets cold. Don't cause any problems today. Love you too.
-Fu Jin
