I stare at the dark, blank, sky, as I sit on my balcony, sipping a cup of coffee.
I watch as a couple cars drive by, the street lights hitting them then back to the ground.
It was 3 in the morning on a cold Tuesday morning.
I tightened the blanket around me, rocking back and forth slowly on the chair I was sitting on.
I feel a hand being put gently on my shoulder. I look up, following the arm up to the persons face.
"Hey, dad." I said, turning my face back to the street.
"I was just about to head to work. I just saw a light up here." He said.
"Mind if I sit here?" He asked.
"No.." I said.
I sip my coffee. My dad holds his in his hands, keeping his hands warm.
"It's cold out here. Why don't you come inside?" He says. "You have school."
I stand up and smile. "Okay..." I said. I put my blanket down on my bed, laying it nicely.
My dad closes the doors to the balcony then locks it.
"why were you up so early anyway?" He asked. I shrug.
"A lot of things on my mind, I guess." I said.
My dad and I sit on my bed. I sip my coffee.
"What's on your mind?" He asked.
"Just... James.." I said.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, sweetie." My dad said, hugging me.
"It's fine..." I said.
"No it's not. He shouldn't of done that to you. I don't know why he would do that to the sweetest girl I know." He said.
"Yeah... He went to another girl after we broke up. I don't remember what her name was.." I said.
"I'm sorry." He sighs then looks at his watch.
"I gotta go, Natalie. I love you." He said, then kissing me on my head.
"Bye dad." I said. I looked over at the blinds over my balcony door window
I flopped on my bed, putting the coffee on my bedside table.
I told my parents what happened with James (my ex), well... most of the story.
James and I were dating for about a year then he just broke up with me for no reason. We were happy and everything, everyone loved us as a couple.
He told me he was bored of me, he wanted something new. I knew he found someone soon after that but I didn't know who it was until about a week ago.
I saw my best friend, Layla, making out with James in the hallway. They don't know that I know, they're very sneaky about it but it's kind of obvious that they see me looking if they're doing something with each other.
I stare at my ceiling, watching it for so long, it starts to move. I move my head the to the right.
I sit up and sigh.
I grab my coffee cup, drinking the last bit then walk downstairs.
I put the mug back on the Keurig and wait for the coffee to be ready.
I look at the clock, on the wall above the front door.
It's already 4, I've been up since 1.
I sigh. I'm not even tired just sore and worn out. From what you ask?
Swim practice. My coach makes us practice for two hours which isn't bad at all but then makes us lift for another hour. 8 to 11 at night. Every weekday except for Wednesday.
I stretch out my arm. I grab the coffee cup and take a sip of it.
I hear the stairs creak, someone coming down. I look over and it's my brother, Adam.
He yawns. "Why are you up so early?" He asked. He grabs a mug from the cupboard and starts making his coffee.
"I just had a lot on my mind.." I said.
"About...?" He asked.
I pause, stopping myself from breathing. He's the only one who knows the truth, I had to cave in to telling him. He wouldn't let me lie.
"James..." I mumbled.
"What?" He asked.
"James." I said, louder.
He walks over to me and hugs me, covering my face with his arms. I feel tears falling down my face. I reach to wipe them away. Not wanting Adam to see.
"Your okay to cry, It's normal. Don't be scared to do that in front of me." He said, still hugging me.
I let the tears fall down my face freely.
I wipe them with my sweatshirt sleeve. My shoulders move up and down as I sob.
He rubs my back with his hand. "I love you, Natalie." He said.
"Love you... too, A-Adam.." I said through sobs.
