the whole airport experience is terrifying. even more so if, like donghyuck, it is your first time flying... and also you cannot yet speak the language very well.

the blame goes on school and taeyong. because how and when would donghyuck have to tell anyone the colour of his pencil case and quote vines he doesn't really understand. he doubts the airport staff would be interested... but perhaps they would be amused.

currently, donghyuck's walking around, his phone in his hand, trying to translate each sign in front of him. is he supposed to go through this gate or that gate? where does he collect his baggage?

he must look stupid, but frankly he couldn't care less. and yes, sure, he could call taeyong or whip out his phone and have a conversation with a staff member through google translate but... he's too stubborn. he decides getting lost in an airport, starving, death, sounds a lot better than going against his "i'm a young adult, i can do this" rule.

and before anyone points it out, donghyuck is very much aware that the rule sucks, and he's about 98% sure he came up with it on the spot as an excuse to not talk to anyone. so maybe he's a bit anxious about all this.

just a bit.

walking along a corridor. donghyuck ponders why airports need such long passage ways. why can't he simply get from point a to point b? wouldn't that be practical? apparently not, because he's been walking this twisty path for a good five minutes and only now can he see multiple long queues; aka, the passport control.

thankfully people move on quickly, and after a couple of minutes, donghyuck finds himself walking forward and stepping in front of a booth.

he passes his passport and documents.

"so what's your reason for coming here?" the way the woman asks the question isn't hostile, and the warm smile on her face reassures the boy.

"umm.. my family lives here." a short reply, that much he can do.

"vacation?" she stamps something, eyes on the screen of her little computer.

"not exactly... i'll be move- moving? in? with my family... here." at this point, donghyuck feels panic rising. what if they send him back? what if jaehyun forgot to send him some papers what if-

"alright, well i wish you luck. next!"

the spinning belt is intimidating, but donghyuck manages to retrieve his two suitcases pretty quick.

now he just needs to... find taeyong.

and he's scared. he's pretty damn terrified actually. why? he will either burst into tears or stay completely silent, emotions left somewhere aboard the plane. he's not sure which is worse.

he wants to be mad at his older brother. he should've been there. he should've been there with him, not leave him alone with all of... that. and he knows he really didn't. donghyuck is very much aware taeyong's job didn't let him take a sudden two weeks leave to fly to korea but... donghyuck is a teenager, and finding someone or something to blame his misfortune on: helps.

he's not sure whether he's ready to speak to jaehyun either. he's met him once, during his and taeyong's wedding, but donghyuck was 10 back then and shy and awkward and spent the majority of his time behind his parents. so even though they have met before... living with the couple might prove to be awkward at first. jaehyun speaks minimal korean and although donghyuck's english is a lot better than it was back then... he's still anxious.

he spots them right away. it's almost impossible not to notice a massive card saying "WELCOME HYUCKIE" in thick black marker and decorated with yellow flowers.

why are they so embarrassing, he thinks, as a smile grows on his face. so maybe it won't be all that bad. he can hope, right?

as soon as taeyong sees him, he shoves the welcoming card onto jaehyun and sprints to embrace his younger brother.

"hyuck- hyuck i'm-" taeyong mumbles out, mouth pressed against his brother's head, inhaling his smell, trying to collect himself and realise that his sunshine is finally here. safe and sound.

donghyuck wants to be mad, push taeyong away. but how could he? he can do nothing but shake his head and put his arms around him. because now? now there's only the two of them. and they have to live with that. and, as hyuck's mind rushes over all these thoughts... he thinks, it might not be all that bad.
