The Mark

I could feel sweat beading across my forehead as panic and fear slowly consumed me. I wanted to get out of here, to go back home and just sleep the stress away. But I knew that wasn't going to happen. Not today. Not ever. I could feel people staring; some with sympathetic gazes, others holding their harsh glares on me. They were waiting. Waiting for me to make a move. Waiting for me to run. Their eyes staring at me, ready to to pounce on me like predators stalking prey. I gulped and tugged my jacket collar up to hide it. But it was useless, they had already seen. They had seen the mark of death, and knew that I had to die. So within seconds of my action, they all pounced on me. Ready to send me to the unknown realm of death as fast or as slowly as they pleased.
