I sit by the water and contemplate
About the world I cannot hate
About those who hurt me again and again
About those who some would call a toxic friend
About the world and the way it is
The messed up government and starving kids
Then I stare at the ripples out on the lake
And clear my mind from all the hate
I think about the books I still haven't read
About the butterflies in the flower bed
The giggling children covered in snow
The seedling trees just beginning to grow
The puffy white clouds that dot the sky
The baby birds just learning to fly
First kisses and hopeful wishes
Holding hands by a firelight
Making up after a fight
All these things and so much more
I have my whole life left to explore
I leave the water glad that I, can't hate this world, though I may try
