Chapter One.

"Mel, it's called sharing. So, pass me the popcorn!" Andrea Liane shouted, eyes still glued to the television monitor.

I sighed heavily. Andrea could sometimes be a little bossy. Okay, make that always bossy. "Here." I handed her the tub of buttery popcorn, while trying to hold back the urge to roll my eyes. I remembered my dad's voice in the back of my head. "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it." Yeah, but does rolling eyes really go under that category? Still, I didn't want to be rude.

"What about Sam? He needs to eat too. I mean if you haven't heard already, Sams are about to become extinct," Sam Knights, my best guy friend, said while trying to grab the bucket of popcorn from Andrea. It didn't quite work though, because Andrea held her grasp onto it, as if it were a matter of life or death. For a petite girl like Andrea, she was very strong. Her hands hardly budged when Sam tried to take it from her.

All I could do was laugh in response. "Guys, I'm trying to watch a movie here."

That didn't make them shut up though. "Puh-lease, Mel. We've only watched Titanic a billion times," Sam rolled his brown eyes. I'm sure he was fed up with the movie already. Actually, he was probably over it the first time we watched it. Titanic was a pretty long movie to sit through. He only liked the scenes where the guys were punching each other, or when someone had a gun in their hands. Besides that, he hated love stories.

"Yeah, but it's not my fault we all picked my name from the movie-of-the-week bucket," I giggled. Movie-of-the-week bucket was a tradition Andrea and Sam started, before I moved here. Every week, we would have an equal amount of everyone's names in the bucket (a large white waste basket that Sam no longer used as a trash can). Each of us would draw a name from the bucket. Whichever name was drawn the most, that person got to choose the movie for the evening. If there was ever a tie, we would just pick more names, until somebody won.

"Hmmm, maybe Mel rigged the movie bucket. I mean, we've never had someone have all three votes," Andrea mumbled, through her mouth full of popcorn. I looked at her face, and couldn't help but laugh. I stopped myself short though, trying to act nice.

"Andrea, you have some popcorn crumbs on your face," I pointed out, as kindly as I could.

Andrea thrust the tub of popcorn into Sam's arms and rushed to find a tissue. "Ew. Why didn't you tell me I was eating like a pig?" She found a box of tissue on couch. She vigorously started to rub the tissue around her mouth.

"I love watching you freak out, that's why," Sam explained. He chuckled at the sight of Andrea. I had to admit, it was pretty funny.

"Andrea, why do you always go crazy when you get something on you?" I asked, remembering the last time she freaked out like this. Andrea spilled the smallest amount of water possible on her T-shirt at school, and went crazy trying to dry it.

Andrea rolled her hazel eyes in response, while flipping her blond hair behind her shoulders. "Because. Nobody wants to look at someone atrocious. Especially, cute guys." her eyes twinkled for a moment.
