When Fire Touches Ice

Chapter 1 Opal

It was a bright day, the sun shining down brightly. I had just finished up helping ma with the live stock. Wanting to waste no more time I asked ma if I could go play.
"You need to be home before darkfall Opal" Ma said in a stern voice, I didn't reply as I ran down the path into town.
Once I got in town I followed the path to the meadow where I found my friends. Jasper, kynick, Elizabeth, and Mary. I was the outsider to the group, the only one without a title. Most of the towns folk didn't mind, some did tho.
They was playing hide and seek when I reached the group. "You finally showed up" Jasper said. I meekly muttered a "sorry" and put my head down. A hand grabbed mine and pulled me into the woods to hide. I couldn't help the blush that came to my cheeks, remembering boys had coodies. "Me and you are on a team, and we are hiding right now." Jasper said as he continued to pull me along the path. When we reach a bunch of tall apple trees Jasper started climbing up. I followed him up the tree, as we had been practicing climbing for the past few summers. We got about 30 feet into the tree when jasper found a spot sturdy enough to old us both.
We had been in the tree for about 20 minutes and talking about work we had to do before we could play. Jasper had more work to do then me, as he was prince he had to train every day. "Sir. Isaac about took off my hand today" he said in a dark voice. "Why would he do that?" I asked worriedly, as Jasper looked away. "I got distracted" was all he said. I grabbed his hand to try to take his sad feelings away. He looked at me and smiled and my cheeks heated red again.
We started down the tree and walked back to the meadow. The game was over as we wasn't found.
"You guys was hidden really well" Mary said with a smirk, and looked right at me. I looked to the ground and didn't say anything, Mary and Elizabeth started laughing.
"Enough of that" Jasper said as he stood in front of me, like he was protecting me.

THREE YEARS LATER

I was tending to the chickens, trying to get eggs so Ma could make some dinner. As I got a few I put them in the basket when I heard something outside the coop. I went out and looked around, I walked to the back of the coop and was pushed against the wall. My heart started pounding and I look up in fear. "Don't look at me like that Op" came Jasper's deep voice, and my cheeks heated red, and I looked down. "I'm sorry Jasp but you scared me" I all but muttered, and he chuckled. "You get scared so easily you know." I couldn't focus as he still had me against the wall.
"Jasper could you let me go" I asked, and I swear he pushed against me harder.
"Why Op? Do I scared you when I do this?" He whispered against my ear, his voice getting deeper. All I could do was nod an answer. This was he way of joking with me, some say he likes me but that couldn't be. Not with his status being prince and mine being well nothing.
"Opal are you listening to me?" Jasper asked and I looked up in question. He sighed and smiled and stepped away.
"I asked if you was going to come to Kynick's for the little party tonight ?" The tone in his voice said he wasn't going to take no for an answer. So I nodded and smiled at him.
