In Your Dreams

Makoto's POV

I couldn't wait to start college.

A whole new chapter of my life was about to begin. Who knows what could happen?

Buuuut first I had to get some sleep.

I was all packed up to leave tomorrow morning for the city, but for some reason I just couldn't fall asleep. I kept tossing and turning around in bed, staring at my alarm clock every half hour or so and thinking that somehow that would help. The night seemed to go on forever, yet before I knew it, my eyes were closed and I was off towards my dreams.

I found myself replaying all the fun times I got to spend with Sousuke, my boyfriend, this past year. My mind replayed everything from the little moments, like passing glances to each other, to the big ones, like our first kiss which actually wasn't that long ago at Samezuka's school festival.

Everything was great, I was happy, but then all of a sudden I realized that I was alone. Sousuke was just........gone. It was as if he just disappeared in thin air, without any trace. Obviously confused, I tried calling out toward him.

"Sousuke?" I shouted.

No answer. Just silence.

"SOUSUKE!" I yelled louder.

Still no answer.

Soon I started to panic. I was all alone in my dream and everything was getting darker around me, closing in on itself like a collapsing cardboard box. I felt my heart beat so fast I thought it was going to burst out of my chest. And just as it got completely dark, I woke up with a start.

Turning to look around me, I noticed my sister Ran staring at me. She looked quite concerned.

"Oh Ran, it's you. Sorry about that I uhhh was just having a bad dream." I breathed out, still a bit shaky from my dream.

"It's not usually like you to have a bad dream like this. You looked really scared. Oni-chan. And you were talking in your sleep too." She told me, sitting next to me on my bed.

"Oh I was? What was I saying?" I asked.

"You kept mentioning someone's name I think. I think it was Sousuke? Who's Sousuke?" She said.

Wait......what?? Ran doesn't know who Sousuke is? Ran is practically best friends with Sousuke and she even helped me confess my feelings to him. She must be pulling my leg or something, right?

"You don't remember Sousuke? Are you sure?" I asked her.

"Nope. Not at all. Is he new to school or something? Cause I know Iwatobi High does get a good amount of transfer students in the beginning of the school year." She answered with all seriousness.

I can't believe this, it's like Sousuke never even existed. Wait.........did she say the beginning of Iwatobi High's school year? Though aren't I moving out to go to college today?

"Hey Ran? Uhhh what day is it?" I asked curiously but slightly afraid of what the answer could be.

"Today is April 15th. It's also 8:30 am soooo uhhh don't you have to check on Haru-chan so you won't be late for school?" Ran informed me, raising her eyebrow at the last part.

Realizing what Ran had said, I just decided to push all my thoughts from before behind me and get ready for school. Shooing Ran out of my room, I quickly got dressed and headed off towards Haru's house. Once the two of us were walking to school, Haru spoke up for once.

"Makoto?" He asked.

"Hmm uhh yes?" I said, startled by his sudden contribution to conversation.

"Are you alright? You usually have loads to talk about, but you're unusually quiet today. Is there anything bothering you?" Haru asked with a slight touch of concern in his voice.

Honestly, I was a bit touched by Haru's words. Of course there was something bothering me, but I wasn't sure how to touch that certain subject with Haru. Especially if my suspicions are correct, then that means that Sousuke and me have never even met even though we seemed so close in my memories.

Knowing that Haru probably wouldn't let this rest, I decided to try to talk about my problems in a subtle way.

"Haru, have you ever felt like you've known someone or something for a long time, feeling as if it is no doubt real, yet all of a sudden life just flips that thought upside down?" I asked him.

Obviously a bit confused Haru just said "Uhhh I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that, but I think I kind of understand? Are you saying that you felt as if something existed, but turns out it only existed in your dreams?"

"Yes, exactly! I swear I had these certain memories, but when I woke up today it felt as if I was transported to the past before any of those memories even happened." I said, breathing out a slight sigh of relief that Haru was on the same page.

"Maybe your dreams predicted your future or something. And even though I'm not one to believe in that kind of stuff, I don't exactly doubt that it's not completely impossible." He said.

We continued talking until we got to school, and Haru said he'd keep our morning conversation between the two of us since he knows I don't usually talk about that kind of stuff. I'm honestly glad that I have Haru as a friend at times like these.

I just hope the rest of the day goes as smoothly as our talk just did. Or at least that's what I thought until Gou announced at our daily swim practice that she had booked us a joint practice with Samezuka this weekend.

I could tell this weekend is going to be an adventure all right........

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guess you didn't see this coming, did you? Well it has been a WHILE since I even looked at this story and it's comments, but I felt the time was right to at least try to write a sequel. I can't guarantee how good this story will be, but I'll try. After all, I do think my writing has improved somewhat over the years.

I came up with the idea that the first story was all just a dream when I couldn't sleep until 5 am one night. Yeah, that's pretty much been my life for the past month if y'all were curious.

I can't promise I'll be uploading new chapters on a regular schedule, as I am approaching my 3rd year in college this fall. Time to get into gear if you know what I mean. At least I have more set plans for my future and things seem to be looking up somewhat, but we'll see what life decides to bring shall we?

I hope all of you are having a great day :D
