Scene 1 ENTER JULIET
Shauna Davis. The words haunted her throughout her sleep. That girl had ruined everything. She took all that she had once had for herself. She tossed in her bed, the sheets winding around her, twisting like the strings of her soul. She moaned and cried for all she had lost, anger building inside like the pit of a fruit- connected to all, only removable by the knife of another. Juliet sobbed, knowing just how impossible it would be to take back what was rightfully hers- her heart.
EXIT JULIET
END OF SCENE 1
Scene 2 ENTER SHAUNA
The wind picked up the leaves and tossed them into the air, playing with them like a toddler might do with its toys. It blew them around the solitary legs of the girl on the park bench, tickling her with the whispers of the secrets it knew. The girl awoke from her slumber, and grimaced in pain. Hours spent in the cold autumn night had not pleased her, nor did it please the bench who had spent the cold night with her, bearing her weight as she twisted and turned, waiting for the one who would never arrive.
ENTER GABRIEL
GABRIEL: Shauna!
The girl's head turned, and for a fleeting moment joy and hope played with her features, the next punched out of the way by the crushing pain of disappointment, The girl looked away, using the time to make herself a mask of pleasant surprise. She faced the boy who had called her.
SHAUNA: Hey, Gabriel. How.. nice to see you.
GABRIEL: Were you here all night? You look awful.
SHAUNA: It was a mistake, I swear.
GABRIEL: Were you out drinking again? I told you to stay away from Joey. If that bastard tried to take advantage of you again, I swear-
SHAUNA: It wasn't Joey, Gabriel. I was just so exhausted walking home, I fell asleep when I sat down to rest.
GABRIEL: Why didn't you call me to pick you up?
Shauna looks away. Her hand pushes her cell phone farther into her coat pocket.
SHAUNA: I lost my phone.
GABRIEL: I don't know why you do this to me, Shaun. I was looking everywhere for you. You know how much I care about you.
SHAUNA: I know, Gabriel. I just.. wasn't thinking. I'm so sorry if I made you worry.
Gabriel wraps his arms around Shauna.
GABRIEL: You're so cold, Shaun.
Shauna licks her lips nervously.
SHAUNA: You could warm me up.
GABRIEL: And just how would I do that, Shaun?
Shauna blushes. She thinks of the nights she spent weeping on the couch, how Gabriel's strong arms held her tight to him, his clean scent seeping into her every pore. She moves closer to Gabriel, her body subconciously seeking to close the gap between them that had only widened with time.
GABRIEL: Shauna.. I don't know what to say.
Shauna's eyes widen. She turns away.
SHAUNA: Then don't.
Gabriel's eyes watched her retreating figure; the little red coat wrapped tight around it in a desperate bid to shut out the cold sneaking through. His jaw clenches as he thinks of the pain he caused her, and her him. He takes a step forward, then back. Finally he just stands in place, watching the girl he once loved travel farther and farther away.
