Benedict opens the boot to Tom’s Jaguar XF and carefully places a suitcase inside. While his parents are away, the pair are going to stay in his parent’s house as some sort of a break away from the press. Tom – who is surprisingly very happy and cheery – waltzes out of the apartment block twirling his house keys in his fingertips before stepping into the passenger side of the sleek car. The boot is shut with a thud and Benedict copies Tom’s actions of getting in the car in total silence. A comfortable silence. This silence breaks when the car revs into action bringing a grin to Benedict’s tranquil face. “It’s a lovely sound…” He praises out loud.

“Yes.” Tom agrees as they reverse out of the apartment’s underground garage. They hit the road with great but safe speed, they rarely get to drive themselves around. “What are we exactly doing when we are at your parent’s house?” He asks obviously interested.

“Up to you.” Ben replies. Tom lulls over this reply in his head and considers his options. “I have brought Jungle Book with us so we can still watch that…”

“Maybe one evening. But I do have one request if you don’t mind?”

“So polite.” Ben chuckles, “What is your request?”

“Show me what the life of Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch used to be like.” The way Tom speaks Ben’s name makes him shiver in delight.

“Okay.” He chuckles again, “But it was extremely dull…when I was at home that is.” Benedict attended boarding schools from the age of eight but he regularly returned home at weekends and school holidays during his teen years. “I mainly spent my time in that damn apple tree.”

“Why?”

“Best place to learn scripts.” He explains, “You must have a place where learning scripts seems like the easier thing on the planet.” Tom shrugs his shoulders, “Oh come on!”

“What? I haven’t really thought about it before.” Tom replies with an element of curiosity in his voice.

“So, when you were learning scripts to place the God of Mischief, Loki of Asgard or Loki of Jotunheim – which ever you prefer – did you not learn those lines in a special place?”

“There was this café…its gone now.” Tom thinks, “I learnt the entirety of the first Thor script in there.” The car falls silent again until a question pops into Tom’s head. “When did you first see me act?”

“Oh…” Benedict thinks carefully, “Probably Return to Cranford in…”

“2009.”

“Yes, I found it quite humorous when I found out that I would be working with you in War Horse soon after.” He rambles, “When did you first see me act?”

“2005.” Benedict momentarily forgets that he is driving and looks at Tom with pure astonishment. “When I was still at RADA I watched you in a production of Hedda Gabler where you played Tesman. I remember thinking to myself, ‘I hope he gets the success he deserves.’” Tom pauses and stares outside the window at the streets that he passes, “And you did get that success.” Ben blinks a couple of times still completely won over.

“I love you.” Is all he can manage.

“I love you too Ben.”

“If I wasn’t driving right now I would kiss you…” He grumbles.

“Ehehehe you can thank me later.” Tom winks in Ben’s direction making his boyfriend blush a deep fuchsia.

They arrive at the sweet cottage with the huge gardens extremely happy. Tom has only been here once but he feels like it was only yesterday. Ben pulls the suitcase out the boot of the car with one hand while scrambling for his old key in his deep trouser pocket with the other. Tom shuts the boot and locks the car while Benedict unlocks the front door to the house. The pair trudge into the house kicking off their shoes as they do so and walk directly into the kitchen. Ben goes further to dump the case into the bedroom while calling, “You stay here.”

“Okay.” Tom replies his eyes searching the room for nothing in particular. His muscles relax as he takes in the homely and welcoming atmosphere. His stomach rumbles making him sigh, we will have to go shopping later he thinks as he makes his way to the fridge. Pulling it open he is surprised to see it fully stocked up with a large range of different food and drinks. “Ben! I think your parents want us to get fat!” Tom calls in Ben’s direction.

“I know.” He replies returning into the room holding a slip of paper; obviously a note from his mum looking at the handwriting. “She says, ‘Benedict dear I got your father to buy some food for you and Thomas. I gather you find this note first before the food you dirty boy. Enjoy yourself.’” The pair erupt into laughter after they realise what she meant. “She is ridiculous.” He states as he rummages through the fridge. “Aha.”

“What?” Tom asks.

“Now Mr Hiddleston, will you join me to enjoy this scrumptious pudding in the apple tree?” Benedict inquires in a tone of mock politeness.

“I would love to Cumbers.”

“Don’t call me that.” Ben asserts jokingly.

“Aww I am sorry darling.” Tom kisses Ben on the cheek gently. “I love you.”

“I love you too. Always.”
