"I love you."
"Did you hear me?"
"I said I love you!"
"I will just go home now, bye."
Into the shadows, left a tall fairly built young man. Tears rolling down his face as he quickly fades away into the dark. Behind him, a gorgeous blonde girl in a red dress and heels stands motionless under a streetlight looking down to her feet. The sound of loud music playing from a distance. The boy looks into the open skies hoping for an answer but all that greets him is the beautiful twinkling of stars in the clear sky.
He tries to remain silent, which only results in childlike whimpering. His first love does not share the same feeling he feels towards her and this too on prom night. The two teenagers left prom earlier for a walk, perfect time for a kiss. Or was it?
Young love.
A door slams shut on twenty first street, "Collin is that you?"
A woman's voice echoes through the room.
"How was prom? Did you kiss her?"
She gets up towards the direction of stomping feet. Not a word to her from whoever just walked into the house. She races to his room to find the door locked.
"Is everything okay baby? Let me in."
"Everything is fine mom." He yells out from inside the room. His voice shakes in sadness.
Prom was a disaster. The fairytale high-school year ending he hopped for did not happen. The concerned mother stands by the door listening. Her son cries out his heart for the girl of his dreams.
"Can I get you anything?"
"I just want to be alone right now."
She tip toes back downstairs as the sound of his crying fades away. A few minutes later his phone rings. It's her. Her picture shining bright on his phone. He tosses the phone to the other side of the room. A few rings go by to no answer. Collin sits up on his bed looking into the open air, tears streaming down his face. Down stairs, the doorbell rings. Collin rushes to his window to check who it is. His mother opens the door before he can see who it is.
"Hello Mrs Baker. Is he still here?"
Collin's mother lets him in. He quickly stomps his way up the stairs and begins to knock on Collin's door.
"Collin! Open up! It's me."
Collin quickly wipes his tears and drags himself to the door.
"Come on! Open up man! Let's just talk about this." Collin opens the door; it is his best friend Todd.
At the bottom of the staircase, his mother looks up to the boys.
"I'm going to get take out. What do you guys want?"
"Pizza is fine Mrs. Baker."
"Okay. I will be out for a few so you two can talk."
She waves goodbye then shuts the door behind her. Collin walks to the side of his bed and picks up his phone.
"If she doesn't love me why is she still calling me?"
He sits up on his bed watching Todd slowly closing the door.
"I have what you need," Todd pulls out a bag of weed from his pocket.
"I mean why? I thought she really loved me.
I took her out, treated her like a queen. Just roll that stuff I need some right now."
"Its cool bro I get it, first love blues. I know this is probably the worst time but...,"
"Yeah, yeah I know, you told me so."
Todd gestures to him before lighting up the weed. He takes a few huge hits and starts to choke. He blows a grey smoke cloud towards Collin.
"Love hurts. That's why they call it crush because you get crushed."
Collin grabs the oddly shaped joint, takes a few blows and falls on his bed face up. Todd paces around the room then sits up next to him.
"Pass the weed. You need to get your mind off this bitch. You need a distraction and maybe some ass while you are at it."
Collin seats up and looks Todd in the eye,
"I don't like the sound of that."
"Come on dude. When have I ever been wrong?" Todd winks at him.
An uber pulls into the parking.
"Pizza is here."
Collin's mother yells from downstairs, "Come get it while its still hot boys."
Todd stands up, "This is what we'll do, we'll go eat this pizza then you get some good sleep and I'll come pick you up for this surprise I got. Okay?"
Collin nods in agreement, as the boys go down stairs, greeted by the sweet pizza smell.
