What is the Mandela Effect? :
The Mandela Effect refers to a phenomenon where a very large amount of people share false memories about past things, in psychiatry this is known as Confabulation which means filling memory gaps with other distorted memories. Many people speculate that these memories are caused by parallel universes spilling their knowledge into our universe, but others explain this as a failure of collective memories.
The spread :
The way this phenomenon spread was but a post on August 23rd, 2012 it was titled "We Are Living in Our Own Parallel Universe". In which described a very local and widespread memory of the children's book series "The Berenstein Bears" as "Berenstain" instead of the correct spelling "Berenstein" Many youtubers have posted videos on researching this stuff like our king Shane Dawson and the youtube channel ShineTheLight73.
Examples of The Mandela Effect :
1. Many people recall the American Lunch meat company Oscar Mayer is actually spelled "Oscar Meyer".
2. People swear that the company "Jif" peanut butter is Jiffy instead of the correct way of "Jif".
3. The cartoon Looney Toons well as everyone remembers is as. Is actually spelled "Looney Tunes" not Looney Toons.
Now there are many examples but these three stuck out towards me.
