Maeve's POV

"This isn't a summer camp that you've signed me up for, it's marriage!" I said, exasperated.

"I am well aware of what it is, May, but that company which you look forward to owning, well, it will be in bits if you don't go through with this marriage." I looked at my father, the man whom I only saw as my hero right up to this day. He was just humouring me by making it seem like an argument, his tone held a finality that foretold his confirmed win.

"Whose fault is that?" I didn't care if my words hurt him, I was not a bargaining chip for him to use as he pleased and he needed to know that. I had a life of my own and dreams which sure as hell don't flourish in a forced marriage.

"People make bad decisions in business, you'll find out soon enough." His choice of words caught my attention.

"What do you mean?" I asked, cautiously.

"If you get married to Seth Flynn, the company is yours." He declared. It wasn't of any apparent benefit to me as I was set to inherit the company, regardless. But, that didn't have a deadline. He was putting a date to passing it down and dare I say that it sounded rather tempting.

"And you assure me that this man you speak of is not a man of loose morals?" I enquired. If it was inevitable, I might as well know what I'm being thrown into.

"Not at all. Even the tabloids haven't found a fault in him. I've done business with him as well and he is every bit of the respectable man the tabloids portray him as. He's sharp, good looking and a man of his word. I don't think I'd ever find a man better suited than him to be your husband." He assured. My father was a sales man, I just never thought he'd be selling the idea of marriage to me.

"How does he feel about this convenience marriage?" I wasn't sold at the thought yet. If he was so perfect, what's to say he doesn't already have a woman in his arms?

"He understands the necessity of it." My father said in a lowered voice .

"You don't sound very convincing right now, Dad." I called him out.

"He has his reasons to agree, I believe." I saw the hesitancy and I felt the hate that bubbled in me for the man before me.

"Oh, he has already agreed, is it?" I mocked, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Yes, I have had word with his father and the only yes we need is yours." His father and not him, that little detail didn't skip my attention.

"Have you met this man after promising my hand?"

"No, but I've spoken to his father." He repeated, looking at me as though I was slow at understanding.

"Then where's the guarantee that he isn't in the same position as I am?"

"Well," He paused and I knew that this was a half cooked proposal.

"I wish to speak to Seth Flynn. Only then will I even consider this ill-conceived proposition."
