(A/N - hi! Gore warning!! This whole chapter has like, one or two gore parts so don't read if you're squeamish! Thank you!)
“Hello?” A girl yelled down the hall, woken up by a crack of thunder and the creak of a wooden door nearby. Must be my imagination… The girl changed from her off-white pyjama dress into her usual dark green dress, tying her jet-black hair up into three little pompadours. She touched the white highlight before pushing her hair off her shoulder, letting it drape down to the middle of her back. Her ears were slightly pointed, although covered by her hair, she was half-elf. The dusty room was dark, brightened only by a flash of thunder here and there.
The girl struck a flame met and let the orange radiance meet a small candle, brightening the area around a dark wooden desk. She pulled the red satin chair and opened a small diary, her name labeled in gold. Her delicate fingers brushed over the four letter name. She picked up a quill, encased in a jet black ink and began to write.
Hello Denn.
Its myself again. It's the middle of the night. I was awoken by a loud bang (probably thunder) but I thought I heard someone enter the castle. I suppose not. It’s not that bad. It woke me from this horrid nightmare. The same one from last night. And the night before. And the night before. The same voice was calling my name. My full name… But I can never remember my last name. The nightmare wasn’t too different. The sword plunged through the man standing next to me. I carried the baby and ran down several stairs. Into the basement. My hands were wet with blood, and I accidentally smeared it on the baby. There was still a shadow following me. I swear I saw the shadow looking at me in one of the castle halls the other day. Although, it was dark and probably a trick on my own mind. Even though my nightmare follows the same layout as the castle, I still haven't found the basement where I took the baby. I think it might unlock something in my memories but… I'm not sure. This is the second week since I’ve woken from my coma. No memories have returned yet but I'm heavily anticipating what happened in this place. I explored the south tower in the castle yesterday.. There’s actually a library there! Well, I say library, but there were only 10 or so books. They all talked about the land and classes, peasant behaviour, creatures and there was even one about how royalty and manners. The date goes too far back, I still have no idea what year I’m in, but it’s been well over a hundred years. The storm this time is pretty fierce, the second storm in these last two weeks. The wire surrounding the castle is still impenetrable. I think some boys tried to sneak in, but failed. I’m not sure how to leave, or when. I’m nearly out of freshwater, I hope this storm is enough to refill the tank outside. I still haven’t found any food. The usual. I think that-
The page cut off, a small sudden scribble reaching down to the page. Denn dropped the quill and stood up, fast. Another sound echoed down the hall. Her room was at the end of the east hall, connected to a tower and flight of stairs. The sound was… too human to be an animal or the sound of something falling. Denn grabbed her silver cloak and shoved the diary into her bag. The candle blew out on its own, the room darkening. The only sound heard was the pittering of the rain on Denn’s cracked window. All was quiet. The bedroom door creaked, and a blinding artificial light blasted through the room. Denn had already quietly entered a trap door under her bed. It led to a well, that if carefully climbed, led to the outside of the castle. Her brown knee-high boots (she shoved them on quickly before having to crawl under her queen-sized bed) splashed through the murky water. A jade jewel shining on both her boots, reflecting from the artificial light once more. The light grew brighter. Denn was being chased. She ran as fast as she could, finally reaching the bottom of the well, which was beginning to flood quickly. The water was already rising to her shin, the tunnel that led there also filling up. The rain made the bricks poking out slippery, but Denn managed to grip onto one. She slowly climbed, the bottom of the well catching up. The man stood at the bottom, holding a flashlight (Denn doesn’t know what it is). The water was up to the man's torso, soaking his black suit and his dark glasses splattered with rain. He watched Denn climb to a small wooden ledge, her wet hands gripping on as hard as possible. The wood suddenly broke on her, the frail body began to fall down the deep well.
