I sat still in front of the huge mirror. I admired my beauty.
My short, wavy hair. It's natural turquoise color stood out.
My elegant eyes. I stared in awe at their crystal blue pigment.
My soft, pale skin, untouched by dirty, poor hands.
My shiny, white teeth. I took care of them as if they were my babies.
"The most important first impression is the smile," Mother would always say.
Mother was an Exception. She had light pink hair, and her eyes were white as snow. She was also incredibly intelligent.
I had always looked up to her. Since my Father was an Ordinary, he couldn't relate to me as much as Mother.
She was the only one I allowed to touch me. She was pure and perfect like me.
She brushed my hair.
She put on my makeup.
She brushed my teeth.
She helped me put on my suit.
She helped me with everything. I couldn't as for a more perfect mother.
I heard the door open. She walked in.
"Son? Are you ready for the Bidding?" She softly said with the gloved hand holding the doorknob.
I smiled and nodded my head.
I walked over to her and kissed her on the cheek.
She took off one of her gloves and touched my cheek.
"Oh, my Exceptional son. I love you with all my heart," she kissed my head and walked me to the stage.
"Now presenting, Harrison Constantine!" A loud voice boomed through the stage.
The audience cheered and yelled as I walked into view.
Biddings are events where sell Exceptions to their future husband, wife, or owner.
Mother had always dreamed of the day I would meet my future Husband or Wife. Although she loved Biddings, she feared Owners.
Owners were very rich men who bought Exceptions for lust, love, or power. These men usually had more than one Exception.
"Bids starting at $50,000!"
Many people yelled loudly and raised their signs.
"$70,000!"
"$1,000,000!"
"5,000,000!"
"11,000,000!" A man screamed.
Everyone stared in awe and confusion at him. He was a very fat, rich man. Gold rings covered his fingers.
I looked over at Mother and shook my head slowly. A tear shed down her shiny face. She slowly nodded.
"Going once! Going twice! Going three times! Annnnnd sold to the fat man in the red suit! Claim your price now!"
He slowly walked to me. I froze in my place, scared to move. He placed his unclean hand near my face. I cringed and stepped back a bit. I didn't want his dirty fingers to ruin my beautiful complexion.
He raised his hand high in the hair and slapped me across the face. My head snapped to the side. The audience gasped in horror.
I fell into the floor. I couldn't get up. I was on shock.
