Five Days Through Arctic

Day One

The Accident

It was fine morning. A ship named Arcticturer was sailing out in the sea towards the white lands of Arctic. The ship was led by Captain Steven and his wife, Rowena. The couple was only married for a few months so they had no children.

Captain Steven was discussing about the route of the adventure when they suddenly heard a rumbling sound, it was coming from the engine room! The ship's engineer, Michael a man who always has a mask on, came running toward Steven. He panted and wheezed but he managed to say: "The ship's engine is frozen due to the temperature in the water!"

But before he could finish, their conversation was interrupted by a loud "crack!" Everybody turned their heads and couldn't believe what they saw. The ship's hull was cracking! Everybody panicked and ran around the ship screaming. In the scene, Steven had lost sight of her wife. He ran around shouting: "Rowena! Rowena! Where are you?" but had no luck finding her.

Suddenly, Steven's legs felt icy cold. He looked down and realized that the boat was sinking! In desperation Steven yelled: "Calm down everyone! I know that you all are panicked but please, if you want to leave the ship safely, please work together and lower the lifeboats!" Then, the whole crew went silent, no one made a noise. The people on board started working quickly on the lifeboats. Steven went around the ship helping out but suddenly, he realized that one of the lifeboats was missing. He wanted to investigate as it was strange because there had been four lifeboats on the Arcticturer when they had left the harbor. But he had no time as the level of freezing water was already at their knees.

Ten minutes later, the whole crew was on the 3 lifeboats, Rowena, was still nowhere to be seen. They left the sinking Arcticturer and started rowing the lifeboats. Luckily, everyone had their winter accessories on as Steven had a bad feeling in his stomach.

After about what seemed like 10 years to Steven (okay, maybe it was only 2 hours), they caught sight of Arctic. They ate hungrily on what they had left before setting foot onto the frosty land. The crew members wanted to turn back as they did not want to be stuck on Arctic but they had no choice but to stay as the sky turning to was turning dark. They got in their sleeping bags and decided to call it a day.

That night, Steven had a nightmare. Not those normal nightmares that goes like this: "A ghost is chasing you down the hall of a haunted house and you were caught by it at last". No, instead, Steven dreamt of Rowena, stuck in the dark, hands bound. Suddenly he heard a hysterical laugh. He turned around and saw a black figure of a man standing before him.

Day Two

Steven woke up, sweating. He gazed up at the sky but it was still dark. He wanted to go back to sleep as he was still tired but he couldn't as he started thinking about Rowena. Questions filled his mind. Where was Rowena? Who was that guy in his dream? Was that dream real? Etc. How long had the time passed, Steven didn't know, the crew started waking up and started packing.
