Summer camp. A place where parents send their kids when they don't want to deal with them for the summer. I got lucky though this year. I was able to convince my best friend's parents to send him, too. Just me and Alex for the summer, maybe.

It was my last week before they shipped us off for the next two months. Alex and I were out front throwing a football around. My head wasn't entirely in it though. My attention was on the next door neighbor's porch. I guess Alex was able to catch on with where I was looking.

"You talk to her lately?" His question threw me off. He crossed the yard without me noticing.

"Who?" I asked him, grabbing the football from his hands, and tossing it in the air a couple times.

"Don't who me. We both know who I'm talking about. Does a, what were you're words, oh yeah. Does a, and I quote, 'dark-haired beauty', who just so happens to be sitting on a porch swing directly in your line of sight, ring a bell?"

The dark-haired beauty he was referring to was my new neighbor, Kaitlynn. She moved into the house a little over two months ago.

I gave him a playful push. "Not since the other day. She still hasn't given me an answer yet."

"Wait... You actually asked her?" I didn't answer him. I was too busy looking at... her. She was sitting in the same two person swing she did most days. A book in her hands and Panic! At The Disco playing from the speaker on the vacant seat beside her. "See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. Too busy staring too hear me asking a question right next to you."

I pushed the football into his gut, hard. "I heard what you said. Yes, I actually asked her. She told me she showed her parents the website. They told her that they would think about it and let her know by Friday, today."

As if on queue, a black trailblazer pulled into her driveway and out of it came her mom and dad. They walked onto the porch and over to Kaitlynn. Her mom sat down and her dad leaned against the railing in front of them.

"Go long... ish," Alex told me, backing up a little and getting ready to throw. I took off in the other direction, which just so happened to be towards her house. He threw the ball and I had to sprint to get it. Luckily I was tall with long arms and big hands. I caught it with ease and threw it back to Alex , maintaining the distance.

We kept throwing the ball making each other move from side to side for it. He dropped it first. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed something, Kaitlynn coming off her porch. I caught the football, throwing it back to Alex. I took the time as the football soared over to Alex to look behind me. She was walking straight towards me. I turned back to Alex as the football was ten feet away from me. I had to reach, but was able to catch the ball, OBJ style.

"Nice Catch." I turned to see she Kaitlynn now standing right behind me, just off to the left. That sly dog. If I hadn't caught that ball it would have hit her.

I looked back over to Alex. He was smiling like an idiot. I shook my head and called out to him, signaling with my hand like I was drinking. "Alex. Water." He took off in a short jog towards the house. I let the ball fly, missing him by a few inches.

"Hey." Wow Anthony, that's the best you could do.

"That was a nice catch there. If your buddy could throw like Aaron Rodgers, you wouldn't have to stretch to make him look good." I just looked at her dumbfounded.

"Of all the QBs there are, you choose my quarterback." Smooth man. Just smooth.

"Your quarterback? I just moved here from Wisconsin. That's my tam, you think the flag is my dads?" She was referring to the Packers flag hanging by the porch.

"Yes?" It came out more like a question than an answer.

She made a cute little noise, a giggle. "he's far too busy with work to follow sports. But uh, you like the Packers too?"

"I have for most of my life. It's one of the few things I have to remember my grandfather with." I started fiddling with my watch, an old habit. Another thing from my grandpa.

"I'm sorry to hear that." She took a step forward, rubbing one arm as if she was cold. Dammit, way to make things awkward.

"Don't worry about it. You don't really come across as a sports person. No offense. Guess there's just a lot more to learn about you."

"Well, you'll have plenty if time to learn. Guess what?" she was bouncing up and down now, all giddy like. She's a little ball of energy I've noticed. The only time she isn't moving is when she has a book in her hands.

"What?" My mind was a blank canvas. She had a huge smile on her face and it was very distracting if I do say so.

"They said I can go. Since they'll be busy with the business starting back up here, they wouldn't be around very much. So they don't want me to be alone all summer."

It was my turn to smile. "That's awesome! You wont regret it, I promise. It's so much fun there."

"I'll take your word for it. You know my Dad must really trust you or something."

"Really? Why do you say that?" I was confused. I mean I talk to him most days when he sits outside, but that's about it. Well I have offered to mow his lawn anytime I see him take out the lawnmower.

"He said as long as you're there to keep an eye on me. He was at the house those first few times you grabbed me to show me around. Even though it was my mom who answered the door, it was his say on wether or not I was able to go out. He watches you, probably is right now too."

I took a glance over to the window of her house. I didn't see anything in the windows. That made her laugh. "I'm kidding. Don't be so paranoid, but he does trust you."

"Well, I'll try not to let him down then. We leave in four days."
