Minju placed the basket of apples on his lap. "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." She said looking away, uncomfortable to be nice to her father that she hated for so long.
"I'm sorry." Her father told her. Unexpectedly her tears escaped her eye. She turned around to hide the fact that she's crying.
"I cheated on your mother and ruined our family. I always envied your mother. To her family, and her friends she's always the best, the strongest, intelligent and everything. I needed someone to compliment me." He said.
It was pathetic. Everything he said was pathetic.
Minju's sobs are now audible to him. "You were the coolest. I loved the road trips. The city lights. The sea and the mountains. Every stop over. Just us inside the car, singing silly songs and talking about the most memorable moments. Everything was perfect. Until l..." she couldn't continue and started crying.
She kept her composure and face her father with red nose and swollen eyes. "Either way, I was relieved that you didn't leave Jinjin and Rui with the same selfish reasons."
"You always cared so much. I really hope Xiaojun cared that much too. You deserve someone who would care about you like you cared on a lot of things." Her father started crying too.
Minju glanced at Xiaojun who was talking to a Male nurse. He looks like he's having a good time with his new friend.
"Can you ask him to talk to me? I have things I need to tell him in case I won't make it." He said leaving Minju grabbing an apple, forcing it in her father's mouth.
"Don't say crazy things." She said and left him to ask Xiaojun to talk to her father.
Xiaojun obeyed and went to Minju's father's isolation to have a one on one conversation.
"I already hurt my daughter so much. I damaged her heart in many ways. She might get angry easily. She might yell and scream at you. She might saw too many hurtful words and regret all of them after the argument. I damaged her that much. I have turned the most beautiful flower into thorns. I am not asking you to hold the thorns tightly, all I can ever ask is to wait for the flower to grow back again. My daughter is not all bad, she used to be the sweetest. She always understood if me and her mother are having a difficult time. She always makes way for her sisters, being considerate. I don't expect any other man who she will trust again. I hope you guys end up together." He told Xiaojun.
"I love your daughter. She's not all thorns. She used to be." Xioajun smiled shyly. "How are you holding up?" He asked Minju's father since Rui's already getting tested to donate a part of his liver, then it must be bad.
He must be in so much pain.
Xiaojun was confused though, personally with liver problems usually has yellow discoloration of the skin and the eyes. This man looks normal to him. He looked closely to his eyes and it was nowhere near yellow.
"This is actually nothing. I have caused my kids lots of pain. I bet this is nothing compared to that. It's a real disease. Something that can be prescribed with medications. I have doctors that are keeping an eye on me. I can be confined in a hospital. Narcotics are available. When I hurt my kids, none of these are available to help them." He responded sadly. "Actually Xiaojun, I have a favor to ask you. Can you take Minju out of the hospital for a while." He said grabbing something from the drawer. He pulled out the only cash that he has since Jinjin took his card once again.
Even though he hasn't bought any of his new medicine yet, he didn't think twice and only thought about his daughter's happiness.
"I'm not sure if this is enough, but can you take her to a park and buy her Mars. She loves that chocolate bar. Especially when walking on parks. Can you do that for me? When she discovered I cheated, it was the only thing I can do for her to make her feel better." He shed tears once again, recalling all those times he had to take his daughter out because she wouldn't leave her room.
