"Come on! We're leaving now, otherwise we will miss the train!" Jess called from the exit of Jack Wills. I couldn't decide whether or not to buy a body spray, I decided against it. "Coming" I replied to Jess, not wanting to make everyone else wait for me.

We were in town shopping for Christmas presents and we were just leaving.

"Do you guys wanna come sleep at mine tonight? I mean, my parents are away anyway so I would be home alone!?" Zoe asked- obviously desperate not to be on her own again. Surly it's not right for a mother to leave her 15 year old daughter home alone for a week?!

I felt sorry for Zoe being left alone so often and from such a young age. I remember the first time she was being left for three days when she was seven. She called me on the landline phone crying and asking for me to come around because she was scared. I told my mum and she said yes but obviously couldn't bring herself to call the police to accuse her best friend of abandoning a child for a couple of day! It's been happening ever since but Katherine( her mum) always gets away with leaving a child on her own at home while she goes off on some expensive holiday with whichever boyfriend she had at the time. Zoe had no choice but to grow up quickly at home but didn't show anything at school- everyone thought she was amazing! She would always have the latest technology and most expensive clothes and she was always smiling-but I knew that all she really wanted was for her mum to love her.
