Petrarchan Sonnet - Joan of Arc

378 44 10

The voices from Heaven, the angels’ tears

That only one woman can understand.

The sign is very clear: “Fight for your land.

Leave aside all your questions, doubts and fears."

No man can ever witness what she hears.

France’s fate is depending on Joan.

The Maid she is; a woman, not a man.

The poor lonely Dauphin Charles, she endears.

But the fate of brave Joan is not kind.

And then, condemned by God’s ministers,

She meets her end on the unholy fire.

Even in death, a lady to admire.

Some may say cursed, evil, sinister.

But another Joan, we’re yet to find.
