"Yes. My mother legally changed her surname from Fenwick to Rose, but not ours. However, we were led to believe that our surname was Rose, not Fenwick or Avery. She did it to be safe. Obviously, it didn't work as well as she'd hoped. What can muggles do that would match the powers of wizards? Avery found her, and he was terrified of her somehow exposing him for having children together, so he poisoned her."

"And what of Vanessa Fenwick?"

"First of all, everybody in the Ministry is a fool. Second of all, Vanessa Fenwick is my real given name. Third of all, I know you're not Marina Moriarty. Incarcerous!"
