I'm trying to work

Start from the beginning

I yawned slightly. "Fine, Doctor. Was there something I could do for you and Mr. Spock?"

They were both silent for a moment. "If this is a bad time we can always come back." I waved a hand, almost like waving them off. This had started to grow tiresome. Since the incident a few months ago was never left alone for very long. The quiet of my long days seeming to dissipate before I could grasp them. No one bothering me for days as I did my work. I was starting to find my mind wandering to if this was what Kirk had wanted when I said I would join his ships crew back then.

I sat up, turning my chair to face them. "Not at all gentlemen. I was just doing some thinking. Back to the matter at hand, what was it you both wanted from me. If it's about this Khan, there really isn't much I could tell you. History was not one of my fields of expertise. Nor is this social behavior might I add."

Spock was the one to step closer to me. "The Captain has requested you join us for a few moments. While these may not be your fields, I'm sure your logical mind will come in handy." I let out a short sight before following them into the conference room. It had been cleaned from the meal earlier. Leaving Scotty, and Kirk waiting for us to take a seat. As I took mine, the conference began. "Name: Khan... as we know him today." There was a pause as Spock switched slides. "Name: Khan Noonien Singh. From 1992 through 1996, absolute ruler of more than a quarter of your world. From Asia through the Middle east."

He was one of the last Tyrants to be overthrown. This explained his attitude earlier. "I must confess gentlemen. I've always held a sneaking admiration for this one." I raised a brow and turned to look at the others in the room.

Admiration for a man like this? "He was the best of the tyrants, and the most dangerous. They were supermen in a sense: stronger, braver, certainly more ambitious, more daring."

I brought my hands up enough to cover my face. Certainly there was a voice of reason? "Gentlemen, this.... Romanticism about a ruthless dictator is...." Spock started but was stopped as the Captain tried to explain how we as humans have this streak of barberism in us. They went on about how there were no massacres under his rule, yet no freedom. No war until he was attacked. "Gentlemen... "

I glanced to see a confused Spock. Even as the others laughed I understood that confusion. None of what was being said made a lick of sense to me. "Mr. Spock, you miss understand us. We can be against him and admire him all at the same time."

At that I shook my head pulling my hands away from my face. "Captain... that is completely illogical." I stated. They didn't disagree. Instead, they stuck a guard outside his door and I was dismissed to my room. Spock willing to walk with me. "Mr. Spock, I do not understand the purpose of bringing me into that meeting. It was highly illogical how the Captain and the others looked at Khan."

I watched the face he made as he nodded. "I agree. But they are humans, with strange emotions. One must understand them first. Not that you or I would have any luck in this matter. For now, all we can do is wait and see how it plays out. Perhaps by the end of this endeavor we too, will learn why they admire yet condemn him all at the same time."

To that I stopped, and looked directly at him. "Why, Mr. Spock, that is the most logical thing anyone has said all day. It is honestly quite refreshing to speak with someone of your caliber."

For just a second I thought I saw a small smile form on his face. "I came to the same conclusion, Ms. (Y/n). Now then, let us continue to your quarters. They are not much further." I nodded following quickly behind him to my doors. Once past the threshold I bid him farewell just before the doors closed. Interesting indeed.

A few hours passed when a knock came to my door. Now why would someone be disturbing me at this hour? "Come?" I didn't look up from my book. Instead listening to door open and shut. "Who are you, and what do you want?" I asked. My hair was free from its usual braid so when I felt the loose strands shift I whirled round to find Khan in my quarters. My felt my gaze harden upon seeing him. "Who let you out of your quarters?"
