I'm trying to work

Start from the beginning

I smoothed down the dress before making my way next to Spock. "I see the Captain coerced you into joining us tonight, Ms. (Y/n)." I glanced to him for just a moment. My hair was braided like usual but came down the sides before folding into a single fishtail, hanging just above my shoulders.

My dress was a bit of a darker blue, still remaining in my departments color, and a few badges and metals hung on my left side. "Quite unbecoming if I might say. I have to engage in some 'human' conversation today. He really does enjoy his jokes, doesn't he, Mr. Spock."

He nodded. "Quite." It wasn't long after that this Khan arrived and I was told to take a seat, between my Captain and Spock of course. I observed in silence, waiting for the right moment to say anything really, but found nothing to speak about.

This conversing while one ingests nurishment into one's body was a little forign to me. "Forgive my curiosity, Mr. Khan, but my officers are anxious to know more about your extraordinary journey." This was after the table had been served and some women were passing around glasses of what I assumed to be wine. I passed insisting on just water. Khan on the other hand seemed to stare at me as he sat across from my position at the table.

Spock had his hands folded in his lap. "And how you managed to keep it out of the history books." I hummed, taking a sip of water from the glass provided to me.

At the table, the only other two I recognized were Scotty and McCoy, I think the lady that was closest to Spock was Uhura. The linguistics officer. "Adventure, Captain, adventure. There was little else left on earth." Other than the war to end tyranny, which Spock pointed out. A noble effort if was done correctly. "Tyranny, sir, or an attempt to unify humanity?" I paused from drinking any more water. Instead lowering my glass slowly.

I cleared my throat slightly. Spock raised his brow. "Unify, sir? Like a team of animals under one whip?" Khan seemed different, almost like what was said had been an insult. Looking between Spock, myself and the Captain. The entire room remained silent.

No one knowing what to say about what had just occurred. "I know something of those years, remember. It was a time of great dreams, of great aspiration." I don't know why, but that statement made my skin crawl. There was just something off about this man. Something telling me to stay far away from him and whatever he was trying to accomplish.

Spock seemed to notice the shiver, and for one reason or another placed his hand on my arm, still hidden by the table. "Under dozens of petty dictatorships."

Khan was visibly getting angrier. "One man would have ruled eventually as Rome under Caesar. Think of it's accomplishments." Silence again spread throughout the room. I felt as though I had quite enough of whatever was going on around here. I pulled my arm away from Spock and moved to stand.

Once on my feet I placed my napkin on the table. "If you will excuse me gentlemen, I think I will be taking my leave. The atmosphere in this room is not one I would want to acquaint myself with. Commander, Doctor, Captain, I'll be in my lab should you have need of me." I quickly left the room. I didn't want to hear anymore of that history. Anymore of that argument, war or not. That is not my business.

I am a scientist, not a historian. And there was something about that room, with the way they were speaking. There was just something about that room that seemed off. Almost hostile. Sitting at my desk I folded my hands so that my thumbs held the bridge of my nose, and forefinger touching my forehead. History indeed.

A few hours passed with just me sitting in my lab. I wasn't paying much attention to what was happening around me. Just enough to be sure my carnivorous plants didn't attack me. My eyes closed and honestly I was towards the edges of sleep when my door open. "(Y/n), are you feeling alright?" I opened an eye to see McCoy and Spock make their way into the lab.
