Beyond the Sea

a 2010  National Novel Writing Month Novel

By: Lily

Author Notes: Nanowrimo is here! That stands for National Novel Writing Month as if you have forgotten and this amazing feeling is finally upon us!  Can you believe it? It's here! This year I have taken a different approach and one I know will treat me well I'm re-writing a Disney Classic. The Little Mermaid! I think what this year has taught me about anything with my writing is that you have to do it for yourself and nobody else. No person will be walking down the street holding up a plot sign or a plot bunny asking you to write. Also  I had no idea the people I would meet this year or keep as friends and who would cross my path along the way. Or what my subject of writing would be, and maybe I had a feeling that this would be the story all along but there are those that put obstacles in your way. The reason I have got back to National Novel Writing Month and now entering my fifth month is the biggest secret all along. SO what if there are obstacles? It's my story. I would like to take time to dedicate my story to my bookmark Nikki, who has taught me that sometimes you just have to stop and write and reflect. I have read tons and millions of books this year thanks to you that I would never do had it been up to me had you left me in the library to fend for myself. I have learned about fairy queens, Mythology, Vampires, the upper east side, and most importantly mystical realms somewhere out there. Another reason I have dedicated this novel to you this year is because you were the ONLY one who knew it could be done, and didn't ask "why" no you told me "Why not!" That's what I've needed. Also you were my fins when I couldn't find them and so you get a character into the story! This story is also dedicated to my Mother for you have without a doubt kept me at this and have made a challenge sometimes, especially since I need to get my flu shot this year on November 1st but you are amazing more then you know it and you put the heart into me to keep me writing. You have been with me from the start when I wanted to write and pursue my dreams. Shoutout to my kidney, I love you so very much. Shouties: Rissa, Paula, Hali, The Magical Creatures Teashop, Denver NanoWriMo writer's and to my own friends Amelia, good luck in your own story. Song credit to "So Close" by J. McCurdy and this is a work of fiction, any similarity or likeness to any events, or persons living or dead is purely conincidental. This story is copyrighted 2010 by Lily.

Dad: "Do you think I was too hard on her?"

Sebastian: "No! Why if Ariel was my daughter, I'd show her who was boss."

Dad: "Your absolutely right, Sebastian.

Sebastian: "Of course."

Dad: "Ariel needs constant supervision."

Sebastian: "Constant."

Dad: "Someone to watch over here, to keep her out of trouble."

Sebastian: "All the time."

Dad: "And your just the crab to do it!"

BOOK I: Watching from the shoreline

Chapter One: Into the great wide open

My father taught me about the different aspects of the sea, and I never forgot something he told me once, twice, or about a million times.

"Abigail don't wait for your ship to come, swim out to it."

The minute he told me that, I ran to the first wave I saw and have never been the same. Sometimes if you listen real hard and you hear the shimmer of the wind against the waves you can hear voices calling, beckoning,  whispering to an individual swimmer. It calms my heart, and let's me know I can swim, it's okay and anything is possible. I'm more aware then I am on sand when I'm in the salty water, I can be free, I can be anything I've ever imagined. Water has been all around me my entire life. I wouldn't trade it for the entire seashells that I pick up and collect, everything is the water, and the water is everything. Life is the bubbles. Since I've been closer to the sea I have met my best friend, and the love of my life.
