"Sometimes when I close my eyes I can still see my mother's smile, or when i turn a corner in the apartment I can still smell her perfume, and sometimes I can also hear the sound of her voice as I wake, she had an angelic voice unlike any other I've ever heard. But despite all these incidents i know that it's not real, i know the reason i feel like she is still her with me is because of how much I miss her. My mother's name was Issabel Greenbrier she was a painter, she was one of the strongest, most beautiful women I had ever known with a free spirit, unlike mine. She met my father William Blackbeak when she was 23 years old right out of art school, they fell in love and got married a couple months later, 2 years after they had me Amern Blackbeak on the stormy night of September 13, 2153. Which was the same night that they received what dad had described as the saddest news they had ever heard, i had tested positive for the water-bender gene. What this meant was that I had the special ability to control water, besides that there were three other genes that a child gifted by the goddesses could receive, the fire-bender gene, the earth-bender gene and the air-bender gene. Only one in a million children were born with this gene, what this meant however was that at the age of 13 I would be recruited to the special bender armies of the united states. When my parents heard this news they wanted to make sure that they could give me one of the best lives any child could have in the short time of 13 years. To be honest i believe they did give me an amazing life, but that changed when mom died from cancer almost 3 years ago, dad was heart broken and from the moment we but her in her grave i knew we would never be the same family again. In the following years I focused on my studies, every child with the active bender gene is admitted to special classes which are supposed to prepare them for recruitment, some of the classes I took were war history, battle strategy, water-bender abilities, and earth-skills. We didn't know much about what to expect at the camps, all we knew is that for the following 4 years we would train in a secret facility to become soldiers. I wouldn't say I'm afraid to be recruited but i am afraid of leaving dad behind, all alone."
