"Whats wrong with me?"
The question shocked him. She always seemed so ... Happy. But then again, what did he know? He never spoke to her. They were the only two people in the classroom, with her sitting on the table next to him. 'Did she mean for me to hear her?' He hadn't a clue of what to do, and he was starting to get awkward.  He looked towards her again, only to lock gazes with dull brown eyes. Her eyes weren't dull though, he vividly remebered them being the color of chocolate, with flicks of gold that matched her glittering smile. What changed?

He didnt look away and neither did she. But he broke the silence eventually, the look in her eyes breaking him a bit. "Nothing...why?" He mentaly facepalmed 'that was so freaking generic! Ughhhh' he kept staring at her face, alert for any sign of emotion, but there was none. It went back to quiet after that but he never lowered his gaze. Her eyes looked so lifeless.

"Then why doesnt anyone choose me" she sighed. Her gaze was on the table now as she absentmindedly twirled a pencil. His eyebrows creased together but before he could ask anymore questions, she continued, almost as if she were monologging to herself. "Im always second best, i'm never good enough, nobody really notices me. Im basically a shadow" she let out a bittersweet chuckle before sniffing quietly. 'Oh shit'

He'd always invisioned her as strong, but here she was. Eyes closed as the river of emotions she had bottled up for so long fled down her cheeks. "Your not second best, your good enough, i notice you" her breathing hitched "and you'll never be a shadow" she whipped her head to face him once more. It must've taken 3-4 seconds for the turn but time slowed down for him.

Her brown locks flew around wildly, reflecting her free personality as her face was contorted into a mixture of sorrow and agony. Her once lifeless eyes filled with pain now. He winced, he hadn't meant to make her cry!
"Wha....?" Her voice came out raspy due to the crying. She inhaled and tried again "what do you mean" her voice was like a lulluby, so soft you'd never notice it.

He felt a lump in his throat 'shit! I said that just to make her feel better gah!' He tried to think up a lie, but to no avail.
"You just said that for the sake of being nice... Didn't you" he winced, but it was the truth. He hated how unsurprised she sounded, like even though she was hopeful she knew it was wishful thinking. He knew what he needed to do. What he wanted to do.

"You're right, i lied" a look of hurt flashed her face, but he carried on "but...i want to be able to say that to you for real. You were in the shadows, but you dont have to be there anymore. I noticed you and im not gonna stop trying to know you" he let out a small, sincere smile. He could hear her breath hitch and she rushed into his chest, him hesitantly hugging her back. She let go as both of them looked away with cheeks tinted with pink.

She looked back at him a minute later, her gaze filled with DETERMINATION, the closest emotion to happiness she had shown today. He looked down to her lips, which were stretched out into a polite smile. It was more than that though, it was her saying thank you. 'One day' she thought 'maybe my crush wont be unrequited'

Haha i go out of my way to avoid angst fics but i ended up writing some. I needed to let this out though.
