The darkness around them wasn't pleasing at all. It was, after all, dark and one could barely see anything. They had been stuck here for eons, it seems. Waiting to be released, to be let back on the material plain of existence.
Colors suddenly came from nowhere. Purples, blues, the two could sense something coming. Just maybe, they'd be let back. Back to Kyoto, their beloved city they were able to once freely roam.
The galaxy like colors floating around. The background, no longer black, looked beautiful. The two enjoyed the change of scenery quite a bit, actually. Then they noticed something else as well. Each other.
It had been awhile since they have actually seen their forms. The dark Kitsune observed the light, and the light the dark. Staring at each other. In their fox forms, the dark Kistune, in fact, wasn't black colored, but had deep red fur that could trigger someone to think of violence. The light Kistune has very light red fur, almost to be mistaken as a light pink. The dark and light both shared the same brown eyes, full of curiosity and wonder. They glanced at eachother's hoshi no tama, a glowing ball or gem that they keep within reach of themselves at all times, for it contains a Kistune's soul. Without it, the Kistune would grow powerless, and eventually die.
The dark had a deep purple gem, fastened to one of its ears. The light had one bright green ball fastened onto its first of five tails. They continued to stare at each other, taking everything in.
Eventually, the light had enough of the staring and attempted to walk towards the dark. The moment the light attempted to stretch out a second paw for a second step, a small clink of chains could be heard. Of course they wouldn't be aloud to roam here freely. This was a prison, after all.
The dark noticed the light's subtle attempt to move and let a small smirk creep upon its face.
"So, sister. You wish to see me that much, eh?" It asked, voice seeming to echo in the nothingness that surrounded them.
The light looked down at more spiraling galaxy patterns. "Yes, I guess so. It's been so long since I've been able to move. Or to fix that one back of your third tail that always seems to be messed up." The dark chuckled. "I assume it's been that way for quite a while now... what do you thing the material realm is like?" The light looked into the darks piercing eyes. Eyes hungry for a response, hungry for something... real.
"I wouldn't know sister. You and I have been trapped inside this cell for years. I hope nothing has changed, I really do. I hope that the humans still worship our existence, and that the tall waterfall is still running."
"And that Ueda is still there."
A moment of silence passed between the two. The light's lover, Ueda Yuudai, was one of the reasons the two are were they currently reside. She almost let him keep her hoshi no tama, letting her die. But then it would give him her immortality if he crushed it. That wasn't allowed, no immortal humans. It was banned.
The dark had most of the reasons why they are trapped in this prison. Things such as forming a cult, and driving people mad just for the sake of it. It was frowned upon. Kitsune had to have worshippers come to them, not the Kistune demanding worshippers or else. But the dark didn't care. It was all just fun and games to her.
The dark opened up her jaw to speak, but shut it once a vivid white kitsune entered their cell.
"You surely aren't thinking about Ueda, are you?" The white fox asked the light. She shook her head in response.
"Good," the glowing white fox replied. "It has been fifty years, half way through your term. I shall see you on release day, I hope you enjoy the galaxy's and other imagery to come. Any requests for me?"
The dark growled but the light asked one simple question. "Please change the galaxy to the special waterfall." The white fox smiled and nodded. "Will do. I shall see you in another fifty years."
/~* 50 years later *~\
The once galaxy had taken many forms the last fifty years. Forms that made you think you were in a forest, on a beach, or even in Kyoto. That's what the background looked like now. It was of a street in Kyoto, vendors lining the sides and grinning people everywhere. The dark hated it, the light loved it.
The sisters had many conversations those years too, ones that would mostly end up in the dark screaming at the light to shut up. They were quite now. They could see each other's body clearly since it was lighter in the cell. The cell, that they could tell, contained this imagery around them and a large stake chained to their back left leg. It gave them the illusion that they were floating above and around these images, and made both of them sick on occasions.
The dark laid asleep, and the white sat awake, staring and memorizing the faces of the people in this image. She would attempt to transform into one of them later, once they were freed. Kitsune are shape-shifters after all. She had many more forms to try out, and was excited to see them all.
The light longed for interaction from anyone beside her annoying sibling. She also longed for her identification back, for they took away their names when they were thrown into these cells. She had pretty much forgotten what she was like, and would have no one to remind her since humans hardly lived a hundred years. Unless a fellow yōkai spotted her and chatted with her. It didn't happen often.
The dark, however, remembered mainly one thing. What it was like with an eager cult of worshippers following you around, willing to execute any command. She longed for that back, all the power and glory.
The dark was awakened from sleep and light was shaken from her daze. The white kitsune had appeared in front of both of them again.
"It's release day," it stated simply.
The light bounced up, eager to be let back to the world. The dark was eager too, but kept laid down to seem as if she wasn't.
"I hope you all have a wonderful time back in the material world," It began a small grin on its face. Light blue works came from nowhere breaking the chains and in doing so freeing the twin Kistune.
"Ah thank you so much!" The light said with a springy jump. "I almost forgot what it was like to move!"
A small portal took form and just as the two were about to leap into it, the beaming white kitsune said, "You want your name don't you? And with it your memories?"
The two halted, for it was correct. "You, the dark colored one. Your name is Yuari." The dark felt a sort of power surge with getting her name back and smirked happily. "And your Kumiko." The light felt even more joyous as some memories and power flowed through her. "I wish you well back in Kyoto."
The two both couldn't hide their smiles, and held paws as they jumped into the portal that would lead them back to their somewhat normal lives.
( A/N: Heyo! This will be my first ever story

This chapter was about 1,200 words long, let me know if it needs to be longer or shorter.
