Evie and I are going to L.A. right after New Years, so I guess this is kind of her last week here. It's kind of bitter sweet, and my walk down memory lane form a few days ago keeps resurfacing every time another box is packed. I can only imagine how Evie is feeling. She's lived in Tennessee her whole life and this house has been her whole adult life.
We leave next week, Ireland renovations will be done in 2 or 3 months and Natalie will move in here in the spring. It's the end of a chapter...an even longer chapter for Evie...but it's also the beginning of an even better one for us.
"I'm exhausted." Evie huffs, draping her arm over her face as she falls back onto the couch. I chuckle as her and walk over to her after I've clicked the door closed from seeing the movers out.
I rest my elbows on the back of the couch and look down at her with a smile on my face, "Packing until 5am will do that do you." I wittily reply.
Her arm flies away from her face and a sassy warning look comes over her face, "Don't play innocent." She scolds, shifting to sit on her knees and put her hands on my chest. "Packing wasn't the only thing that wore me out." She says lowly, holding my cheeks between her hands.
We both break into a fit of shamelessly guilty laughter until I pull her body to me and kiss her lips.
My next move is to lift her over the back of the couch and carry her back to bed, but my phone rings from my pocket before I have the chance.
Her hands trail down my chest as she contentedly settles back into her seat on the couch an looks up at me through her eyelashes.
This call had better be important.
"It's Tara." i inform her, sliding my finger across the screen to answer.
"Oh! Put it on speaker!" Evie smiles.
"Hello," I answer.
"Hi, Tara!!!" Evie sing-songs, making me smile and shake my head at her.
"Hello, lovelies! How are we today?" Tara asks.
"We just sent the moving truck to L.A., so I'd say we're doing pretty good!" Evie proudly announces, beaming with excitement that puts my heart at ease about the move.
"I like the sound of that! L.A. won't know what hits them when Evie Michaels comes to town." Tara playfully comments.
"Oh please..." Evie, the ever modest love of my life, blushes; waving her hand in dismissal.
"So, what's up Tara?" I ask, not to rush her but to take the attention off of Evie. As suspected, she gives me a soft smile and I see her shoulders relax.
"I'm afraid I've called with a bit of bad news..." Tara admits, regret clear in her voice.
